That could be watching some of the same teams but looking at different players or I also tried to watch some different teams that I do not always see. What I have here is a group of prospects that run from 2021-2023 and from D1 to D3/NAIA. Most will be names that you may know, some may not. All are fun to watch with something to offer.
- Allie Turner is a 5’8 2024 Point Guard from John Burroughs and Blue Star 15u. Allie does a good job of using change of pace and change of direction to get into the lane where she looks to pass first. She has good vision and good anticipation of who help defenders are coming. Her passes are accurate and she can score when that is the best choice.
- Violet McNece is a 5’10 2023 Wing from Incarnate Word and Blue Star 15u. Violet is a a knock down shooter that is deadly when she gets her feet set. Her form is smooth and repeatable and if she has space, most games she will make a high percentage of her shots. Violet is learning from a great coaching staff which is helping her expand her game and make her more valuable to her team and potential college suitors.
- Anna Finley Anna Finley 5'6" | CG Owensville | 2022 State MO is a 5’7 2022 Guard from Owensville, Mo and Blue Star Silvey 16u. Anna is a new addition to the team this year and shows the grit and toughness you want in a new player. She will defend and hustle which earns the respect of players and coaches alike. Anna has shown some flashes of being able to penetrate and score. She has a nice change of pace and can move the ball with speed and control when she wants to change directions quickly. Her size might limit the level she can play at, but Anna is the kind of player coaches want.
- Mia Nicastro Mia Nicastro 6'1" | SG St. Charles West | 2022 State MO is a 6’0 2022 3/4 from St Charles North and Blue Star Silvey 16u. Mia has the potential to play either the stretch 4 or the 3 in college. She has the toughness and strength to compete under the basket while also having the ball handling ability to play on the wing. Her athletic ability is in between right now so she will need to continue to focus on getting quicker and more agile if she hopes to play lower level D1 or high level D2 at the 3 spot. But, don’t take that wrong, she has good skill and the upside to make it work. Mia will be a fun one to watch over the next two years.
- Tori Standefer Tori Standefer 5'7" | CG Civic Memorial | 2021 State IL is a 5’7 2021 Guard from Civic Memorial and Ky Premier Robinson 17u. Tori has really been playing at a high level at the USJN event this week. She has always been an excellent defensive player but she has stepped up her scoring this week. Tori is getting to the rim and finishing in a variety of scoring moves and has deep range on the 3-point shot. Tori finished regulation on a personal 6-0 run to force OT in one of their games Tuesday. She is playing at another level.
- Brooklyn Ficek Brooklyn Ficek 5'4" | PG Lasalle-Peru | 2023 State IL is a 5’4 2023 Point Guard from Lasalle-Peru and Illinois Elite. Brooklyn is athletic who can play on or off the ball with her scoring abilities. She does a very good job of setting up her defender when using screens. Brooklyn was patient, set her defenders up by taking them away from the screen and then burst off it and found scoring chances. She is also a terrific shooter with deep range from three. The other thing that really stuck out was her stance, lateral quickness and desire to be a good on ball defender.
- Isabelle Delarue is a 5’11 2021 Wing from Francis Howell North and Blue Star 17u. Izzy is a very versatile left handed wing that can score in a variety of ways. She is best getting in the lane and drawing contact as evidenced by her 124 free throws made during the school season. Izzy has a nice shot from the mid range and is quick enough and strong enough to compete a high level. She was recently offered by Missouri State and has previous D2 offers.
- Hannah Cleveland is a 5’8 2024 Wing from Olympia and Central Illinois Predators 17u. Hannah is a very physically strong girl that knows how to use her body well to get position and score inside the lane. She has developed a nice outside shot that she is hitting at a nice rate from behind the 3-point line. Hannah has had to deal with some injuries so she is continuing to work on getting all of her strength and agility back.
- Faith Fleetwood is 5’8 2023 Guard from Vincennes,Indiana and Indiana Elite Havoc 2023..Faith has been praised by the coaches for her hard work and improvement and I can see it watching her from week to week. I really like her length and potential upside as a defender. She can shoot the 3-point shot and shows the ability to get to the rim off the dribble by using a nice shot fake move and a jab step move. Faith is till very raw at this point but shows the potential and desire to keep getting better.
I cannot say it enough, I am really enjoying being able to watch the girls play and see who has improved their game. The other beauty of the technology era is that I can watch parts of many games on demand and learn about many new players.
