Iyahnni Qualls commits to University of St. Mary
Iyahnni Qualls Iyahnni Qualls 5'3" | PG George Washington | 2020 State CO has a plan for her future and that includes playing basketball abroad after college.
That heavily influenced the George Washington point guard’s decision and she finally found the right fit for her and has officially committed to play at the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas.
“Honestly, when the season was over and I was talking to different coaches, I got a really good vibe from coach and the whole program in general,” Qualls said. “I told them what I wanted to do in the future and I felt like they were really supportive. I’m planning on going overseas after college and he let me know it’s not easy. But he gave me a good idea for what it will takes and I feel like it’s the best place for me to go.”
At No. 30 statewide, Qualls is among the highest ranked unsigned seniors remaining in the Prep Girls Hoops Colorado player rankings for the Class of 2020. Set to leave for her new school on Aug. 7, Qualls said it feels as though a weight has been lifted from her shoulders now that she has committed considering the present circumstances created by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s a big relief to not have to worry about where to go next year, especially with everything that’s going on,” Qualls said. “Some schools aren’t even playing and some rosters are already full, so I’m really happy that I got it figured out and found the place for me.”
In three years as a varsity player at George Washington, Qualls averaged 8.8 points, 4.9 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 5.5 steals per game. As a senior in 2019-20, she averaged 6.8 points, 4.9 assists, three rebounds and 5.3 steals while helping lead the Patriots to a 19-6 record and the Sweet 16 round of the Class 4A state tournament.
At St. Mary, Qualls joins fellow Colorado product Bridget Cassidy, who graduated from Lewis-Palmer last season.
I’m proud to say I will be continuing my career at the University of Saint Mary 💫💙 https://t.co/rClxEcmn7G
