Continue ReadingI already had a glimpse of the Lady Thunder 17U group, I had the pleasure of watching them and Austin Elite RFW in a combine a couple of weeks ago and to say I was pleased with what I saw from both squads would be an understatement, I’ll drop something on Austin Elite a little later but I caught up with the Lady Thunder this past weekend and although Reese Vivaldi didn’t make to trip due to a sprained ankle, she is a heady PG that can score so I’ll catch her down the road.
Tianna Mathis Tianna Mathis 5'9" | CG Rudder | 2021 State TX (Rudder)
Mathis is one of the top players in Texas, plays multiple positions and still isn’t at a hunnid but she definitely makes a difference, on both ends of the court because of her savviness yet she can score, off the dribble and mid to long as well as rebound on both ends but her uncanny ability to help make those around her better stands out
Kemyreul Wheaton (Madisonville)
Wheaton was erroneously committed from the 2024 Watch List but she will definitely be on the update because falls into the “she doesn’t know how good she is category” yet once she does, all bets are off and after seeing her progression, you ain’t gonna wanna roll the dice because she also falls into the “she has things you can’t teach” group
Karli Marburger (Rockdale)
Marlburger does some of the throwback things I love to see from players like she’s always moving and she also anticipates well and being long and athletic is also a plus as she reacts well on defense and plays the passing lane yet she also showed she could score inside as well as facing the basket plus she rebounds on both ends
Martasia Chambers (Madisonville)
Chambers showed me her explosiveness almost immediately and she brings the heat on both ends of the court. She understands how to get to the basket and showed the floater over and over but her pressure defense on guards is solid and consistent
Hattie Novak (Homeschool)
Novak impressed me last season at Prime Time Nationals and made my Tip Sheet but she’s showing me even more than the mid to long-range and creating her shot under pressure, she’s handling the ball under pressure and finishing strong plus she sees the floor
Gabrielle Huetter (Magnolia)
Not sure if Huetter rhymes with shooter but it should if it doesn’t and she made my 6’0 Tip sheet from the event nut here we go, long and athletic with mobility and as her coach told me before I saw her, don’t sleep on her range, it definitely woke me up as well as the intangibles she brings to the table
Jaycie Brisco Jaycie Brisco 5'11" | SG Snook | 2021 State TX (Snook)
Brisco does rhyme with CRISCO and to say she was HOT during the event would be an understatement as she started off warm and finished the event sizzling. Okay, mid to long, off the dribble, yeah that’s all good but she is a pressure player and wants the shot when t’s on the line, and she sees the floor very well
Heaven Ford (College Station)
Ford made several of my Tip Sheets last season and I was overly impressed with this small girl dropping deep threes over and over yet that small girl had a growth spurt, on and off the court and not only is she still dropping the long ball, but her game is also becoming more polished as she’s mixing up a variety of offensive tools
