The girls are ready to get back in action and back to work after this pandemic has completely shifted their summer plans on and off the court. Uncle Drew Productions was in the house getting some top notch material like always. Huge shoutout to Daleisha Carn for putting these on and organizing some really high level competition. There were some college level players, but here are some of the HS players who stood out on Monday night:
Kendal Cheesman Kendal Cheesman 6'2" | PF HB Plant | 2021 State FL ’21
She is not a new name to anyone that knows anything about girls basketball in Florida. Kendal was erasing shots left and right on Monday night. You can see guards think twice when they drive the lane and see her at the rim. Her timing and length are tremendous on the defensive end. She showed off a couple nifty moves on the offensive end with some nice spin moves and tough footwork around the bucket. Kendal is a high percentage shooter from deep with improving handles, too.
Nyla Jean Nyla Jean 5'7" | PG HB Plant | 2021 State FL ’21
A lot of people know about Nyla, but they don’t KNOW about Nyla. I think she’s still getting found out about, and her best basketball and college attention is still ahead of her. She’s one of the best defenders in the state with her quick feet and hands. Nyla is always anticipating the next move and she can elevate in a hurry to intercept a pass or rise up for a bucket. She has the handles and speed to get around any defender and has a jumper that can go on top of most defenders. If she’s hot from deep, you are in trouble in every aspect of her game.
Triniti Youngblood Triniti Youngblood 5'7" | CG Brooks DeBartolo | 2021 State FL ‘21
You will be hard-pressed to find a guard who is as strong as Triniti. She was showcasing her handles and ability to score and finish at the rim against anyone. She has a pure shooting stroke and can really score whenever and wherever she wants. Triniti always impresses, and she’ll be on a lot more college radars very soon.
Jaela Davis Jaela Davis 5'7" | CG Brooks DeBartolo | 2022 State FL ’22
She came in on fire! Jaela hit her first 5 three’s from deep. We all know she can shoot, but her defense was on full display on Monday. Jaela has all of the athletic ability to be a high level recruit with a strong all-around game. Her speed is elite and she used that along with her handles to make some acrobatic buckets around the hoop. The upside is very high with Jaela if she keeps her consistency and head up!
Michel Rivera ’22
She is a player who can do a little bit of everything. She played hard on every play on Monday, and used this valuable time to improve her game. Michel is a strong shooter who will make sure to get her shots up from anywhere she is open. I was really impressed with her ability to crash and grab boards as a guard. She did a great job of pushing the ball in transition, too!
Renita Harris ’23
This was my first time really seeing Renita in action. She has a lengthy frame that allows her to be very versatile. Renita had active hands on defense and proved to be difficult to shoot over with every shot being contested. Her mid-range game was impressive, and she banged around in the post with bigger girls. I think Renita will pop up on people’s radars throughout this summer and next school year!
