The Northwest Blazers sent two teams to the tournament with their Orange (17u) and Fierce (15u) making the trip to compete against some of the top programs in the Midwest and beyond in some cases.
Northwest Blazers Orange (17u)
Record: 3-3
Notes: The Orange team started out 3-1 in pool play, but would lose their final pool play game to All Iowa Attack 17u EYBL by a score of 35-60. Placing third in pool play, Orange had an automatic bid to the quarterfinals, but would lose to the Cal Stars 17u EYBL 61-68. 2022 6’1 PF Naya Ojukwu (Idaho) led the way with 11 points and 5 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field. Ojukwu has led the team in most statistical categories including top two in points, leading in rebounds, blocks and shooting percentage. She does the majority of her damage in the paint, but I did see her hit a couple of face midrange jumpers which is key in her development. The Blazers Orange will play against FBC North 2021 National in the loser gold bracket of the top 17u Division.
Top Stock Riser: Naya Ojukwu (Meridian HS/ID)
Northwest Blazers Fierce (15u)
Record: 6-0
Notes: The Northwest Blazers Fierce have been on an absolute roll with a balanced attack. They have defeated All Iowa Attack’s top 8th grade, second 9th grade and top 9th grade teams in the last couple days. The Fierce have also scored wins over Nebraska Attack 15u UAA, North Tartan 15u and and Missouri Phenom 15u. 2024 5’7 PG Teagan Colvin has been one of the top performers in the event statistically, regardless of division. She ranks high in points, rebounds and steals. 2023 6’0 PF Madison Symons (Idaho) has been a steady inside presence on both sides of the ball and 2023 G Eliannah Ramirez has put together some quality games in the siz game stretch. 2025 6’2 C Malia Ruud (Middle school) is coming along and making a solid impact on both sides of the ball. She has pretty good footwork to go along with outstanding strength in the paint. Once she starts finishing more consistently and getting lift off the ground in the paint, she will be a load for opponents. A definite Division 1 prospect.
Top Stock Risers: 2024 5’7 PG Teagan Colvin (Liberty HS) – Looking like more and more of a HM prospect when you look at her all around production and helping her team win games.
2023 5’10 PF Taliah Lee Taliah Lee 5'11" | PF Gonzaga Prep | 2023 State WA (Gonzaga Prep) – Steady performer that is an outstanding rebounder and mobile in the transition game. Division 1 potential.
2023 5’6 G Rylee Leishman Rylee Leishman 5'7" | CG Ellensburg | 2023 State WA (Ellensburg HS) – Solid on defense, but she makes her money in catch and shoot situations. Multiple games where she has hit 2-3 thee pointers.
