Team Huff started off really slow against Philly Belles 17u in the Bluestar Travel League game. Coach Vanessa and staff must’ve said something really inspiring as they came out fired up and made it a game in the second half. The Belles would on to hold on to a 61-53 win over NW Magic, but it was a hard fought game to the end.
Team Notes:
As previously mentioned, this was a totally different game in the second half. The NW Magic played aggressive, fast and confident on both sides of the ball in the second half. This group overall is very young, but they have a couple prospects at the Division 1 level and players for several other levels as well. Below are just a few of the standouts from today’s game.
Prospect Notes:
2021 6’4 C Charity Hines Charity Hines 6'4" | C Steilacoom | 2021 State WA (Steilacoom HS) had some good moments in the first half. She dove on the floor aggressively fighting for a loose ball, she rebounded fairly well and cleared some space with her size. The Magic went to more a guard heavy lineup for most of the second half, so she did not play as much, but she still has potential as a Division 1 prospect due to her size and flashes of true aggression.
2022 5’7 PG Aniyah Heavens Aniyah Heavens 5'6" | CG Chiawana | 2022 State WA (Chiawana HS) had a very good game against the Belles. She handles the ball with her head up, throws it up the court and she displayed exceptional handles to get by her man. Heavens made timely baskets to keep the Magic in the game and she played with a ton of confidence throughout the game. A stock riser in day one!
2022 5’3 PG Ciera Jorge Ciera Jorge 5'3" | PG West Seattle | 2022 State WA (West Seattle HS) was easily the smallest player on the floor, but she displayed confidence throughout the game versus a talented Belles team. She had some good moments where she broke her man down off the bounce and scored in the paint with either hand.
2022 6’1 PF Sarah Midimo Sarah Midimo 6'1" | PF Cascade Christian | 2022 State WA (Cascade Christian HS) displayed strength, physicality and pretty good mobility in this game. This was my first time watching her play and she definitely showed some flashes of potential as a college prospect. Midimo got some deflections and blocks on defense and she looks pretty comfortable finishing in the paint.
2022 5’6 G Mia Rodriguez Mia Rodriguez 5'5" | CG Eisenhower | 2022 State WA (Eisenhower HS) impressed with her handle and basketball IQ versus the Belles. She handled the pressure with ease and dropped some dimes in 3-2 situations. She is strong with the ball and uses the spin move in the paint to create shots for herself and others.
