These players can get the job done in a number of ways and all have different skill sets that make them stand out among their peers. Especially after ending last season on a high note, it will be interesting to see what these players will do as upperclassmen.
To be an effective shooting guard, you must be able to put the ball in the basket when your team needs it. Some of these players are already on loaded rosters. Let’s take a look at some shooting guards who will get more touches this coming season and since they know what to do with them, we expect to make the most of the opportunity.
Anisa Turner Anisa Turner 5'7" | SG George Washington | 2022 State CO (George Washington)
As a junior, Turner will looking to continue adding value to her team as an upperclassman this coming winter. She can defend the opponent’s top players with her ability to slide her feet and guard multiple positions. Standing at 5-foot-7, she has great size and physicality to her game, making her a threat at both ends on the floor. Turner averaged 9.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game as a sophomore on a squad that spread the ball around quite a bit. She is continuing to expand her range on the floor and will be a tough guard with her ability to finish around the rim among the best in the state.
Amaya Charles Amaya Charles 5'6" | SG Grandview | 2022 State CO (Overland)
Charles (5’5) is a player who can score in bunches for her team, leading the Trailblazers in scoring last season with 13.7 points per game while shooting 113 for 340 (33 percent) from the field. Charles has tremendous upside to her game and has plans to continue pacing her squad as an improved junior this winter. An effective shooter, Charles went 52 for 169 (31 percent) from behind the 3-point arc in 2019-20 and scored 302 points on the season. She posted a season-high with 30 points on 13-for-21 (54 percent) shooting from the field against Smoky HIll during her sophomore season and Charles will be looking to help her team improve on last winter’s 2-20 record.
Charley Gordon Charley Gordon 5'4" | SG Cherry Creek | 2022 State CO (Cherry Creek)
Gordon (5’4) has shown that she can be a crucial player for Cherry Creek this coming season and will be a key component to replacing the immense talent the Bruins just graduated. She prides herself on the defensive end and doesn’t mind tough assignments, and Gordon will do whatever it takes to make sure her team succeeds every night. She will be able to get more touches as Cherry Creek will be losing three key players this coming season and Gordon should pose a threat from around the 3-point arc after shooting 11 for 27 (41 percent) from long range in 2019-20.
Amelia Solt Amelia Solt 5'4" | PG Thompson Valley | 2022 State CO (Thompson Valley)
Solt (5’3) does a great job of getting her hands ready to shoot before she received the ball. She shows the ability to knock down shots off the catch and off the dribble, and is the high-scoring returning player for the Eagles after averaging 12.2 points per game on 103-for-273 (38 percent) shooting from the field in 2019-20. Solt is also a willing passer, averaging 2.7 assists per game as a sophomore, and can get her hands in passing lanes on defense to create turnovers. Solt came up with 2.2 steals a night last winter to help lead her team to a 25-2 record. She also went 48 for 160 (30 percent) from behind the arc during her sophomore season and the opportunity is there for Solt to be her team’s number one scoring option and hopefully help lead the Eagles on a deep playoff run.
