Opportunity comes about through graduating seniors opening up spots and opportunities for the upcoming underclassman. A projection can also be made by a prospect naturally becoming a grade older, maturing, and gaining more experience.
Let’s get to the list. This was a fun one for PGH. It happened to be that PGH projected the five prospects to make that Sophomore to Junior leap.
Madelyn Bragg | Aberdeen Roncalli | 2022 | 6’1 | C | Madelyn has already had a mini-breakout this past season but PGH believes she will really breakout this upcoming season. One reason being is that Mariah Winegar has graduated, opening up a huge opportunity for Madelyn to really take a major role inside for the Cavaliers. Madelyn moves up and down the court like a gazelle and has a go-to move, counter-move, and finishes very well on both sides of the hoop. She has great left hand ability. Stay tuned for her 2022 ranking on Friday!
Sydney Hybertson | Harrisburg | 2022 | 5’7 | CG | Sydney is a prospect that is talented but she also played on one of the top teams in the state, having a top roster along with O’Gorman. It was tough for her to really showcase her abilities. That should change this upcoming season. She is playing with the South Dakota Attack this summer and that should even further her game for Harrisburg.
Landyn Henderson | Mobridge | 2022 | 5’10 | Forward | Landyn may be somewhat of an unknown to a large majority. She has an athletic and strong build. Landyn is a tough player and an exceptional athlete. She moves with power and speed, making her confident out on the court. If she tightened up her handles she would be able to get anywhere she wanted to on the court. Look for all of Landyn’s stat categories to improve this season.
Ashtyn Wobig | McCook Central/Montrose | 2022 | 5’10 | SG | Ashtyn will have to take on a much larger scoring role this upcoming season. Reason being, Abigail Van Ruler and Jacy Pulse have now graduated. Pulse, an All-Stater will be leaving 18.5 ppg. behind. Punch in Ashtyn Wobig to take over at the guard spot. Ashytin may not reach those scoring numbers but she is a very capable player and an all-around guard with a smooth stroke. She should be fun to monitor this season to see how she progresses.
Kyra Griese | Aberdeen Central | 2022 | 5’4 | CG | Kyra may be more of a bounce-back candidate than a true breakout candidate. Kyra missed this past season with a knee injury. She may be one more year from her breakout year because Aberdeen Central has a very balanced roster with a ton of talent. They will be a Senior-led squad this upcoming season but Kyra will play a pivotal role in their success. She feels like an X-factor for them to compete with the top AA teams in the state. She can really get hot from three and she could get going from three on multiple occasions this season. Another fun prospect to monitor this season.
