Continue ReadingWhile Covid restrictions are still in place in Massachusetts for basketball competition, many local teams this past weekend headed to The Rim in Hampton, NH to play in the Zero Gravity Summer Tip Off. After weeks of individual workouts and skill development the girls were excited to get back to competitive games. Lets take a look at how a few programs made out and highlight the players that starred for their teams.
The MCW Starz had an outstanding weekend picking up where they have left off in past years. Their 2023 team came away 2-0 on the day with big wins over the Middlesex Magic and Lady Armour.
2023 Kellyn Preira 5’9” Forward St. Marys -Lynn – Averaged 12 points and 7 rebounds on the day. Super agressive around the basket with the ability to finish around the rim and control the offensive boards.
2023 Yirsey Queliz 5’5” Point Gaurd St. Marys – Lynn -Quickly becoming one of the areas best point guards. She is able to put the ball in the basket, but has a knack for making the extra pass and making people around her better. Had 15 assists on the day!
2023 Selina Monestime 5’9” Small Forward – Framingham – can score from anywhere on the floor and has solid handle and court vision for a forward. Helped Starz with 15 points in game 2.
In the older division the 2021 version of the Starz won their lone game of the day 65-61 over a very talented Saints team out of New Hampshire. Long range shooting carried the way as the team combined for 14 made three point shots
2021 Maiya Bergdorf 6’1” Small Forward – St. Marys – Lynn – The Sacred Heart commit showed right away why she is one of the better players in the state going for 20 points including 5-5 from beyond the arc.
2021 Nicole D’Itria 5-8” Shooting Gaurd – St. Marys – Lynn – This excellent shooter stayed true to her scouting report knocking down 4 from deep en route to 16 points.
The Mass Elite Varsity girls were excited to be back on the court and split their two games on the day. The opener was a tough loss to a super talented Worcester Sting team, but they salvaged a split on the day with a 46-45 win over the Meerkats. Some familiar names had big days for Mass Elite.
2021 Julianna Nealy 5’6” Point Gaurd -Lawrence Academy – This talented guard led the way with 19 points in a close win over the Meerkats. Takes the ball to the rim hard and finishes through contact in traffic. An excellent passer she reads the defense extremely well.
2021 Chiara Nevard – Small Forward – Groton Academy – Extremely hard worker on both ends of the floor. Does a great job on the boards and can finish from the post.
The Green Mountain Raptors finished the day with a convincing win over Future Hoops after dropping their morning game to the Blizzard. A talented group of kids from New Hampshire and Vermont, check back on a grassroots preview about this crew later in the week.
2021 Sophia Bardis – 5’6” – Point Guard – Fall Mountain (NH) – Plays as the textbook point guard with a high basketball I.Q. Looks to pass first and get teammates involved can also score attacking the hoop.
2021 Angelina Nardolillo – 6’0” – Center – Hinsdale (NH) – Dominated the paint on both ends of the floor, is a big time scorer around the basket.
