Continue ReadingSeveral dozen teams from Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Kansas gathered Tuesday and Wednesday to compete in the NCAA certified MAYB Reign the Plains Exposure Tournament. A large turnout of coaches from NJCAA and NAIA schools in the region was had while BallerTV provided the video feed that NCAA coaches could watch. Fed by questions and comments from the attending coaches, what follows is a list of players who raised their profiles with their day one only play. I was unable to attend day two.
Regan Ast Regan Ast 5'7" | PG Ingalls | 2021 State KS , Ingalls, Western Kansas Elite 2021, 5’8″, PG, 2021 – The Southern Plains-Iroquois Activities Association first team selection showed off strong handles with good use of a whirl on dribble drive to get into the lane and create. She hit the mid-range jumper, showed good vision, and has deep three point range. This past season she shot 30% from downtown.
T’Yonne Duncan T’Yonne Duncan 6'1" | C Olathe South | 2021 State KS , Olathe South, Kansas Elite 17U Zars, 6’1″, C, 2021 – Duncan has worked hard since season’s end to get better in the paint and those efforts showed. She was active and physical on both ends. Showing quick post moves especially in back-to-basket situations, several opposing bigs were left shrugging their shoulders while looking at their coaches after getting overpowered inside. Her perimeter ability continues to be there. She is a solid three point and mid-range shooter. Her transition speed and boxing out ability has improved as well. She does need to protect the ball better when the double-down comes, and continue working on her ball handling, defensive quickness, and vertical.
Grace Eck Grace Eck 5'4" | SG Ellis | 2021 State KS , Ellis, Western Kansas Elite 2021, 5’5″, PG, 2021 – A two-time Mid-Continent League first teamer, Eck showed good handles to attack and create, speed, and defensive quickness.
Jaila Harding Jaila Harding 5'7" | CG Wichita Southeast | 2021 State KS , Wichita Southeast, Next Level Eclipse Henry, 5’7″, PG, 2021 – This 2020 Greater Wichita League second teamer showed an ability to go end-to-end under pressure and finish, and consistently create off the dribble. She spaced well in the half court, has a quick shot, and is a solid three point and free throw shooter.
Natalie Payne Natalie Payne 5'9" | SF Shawnee Mission South | 2021 State KS , Shawnee Mission South, Kansas Elite 17U Zars, PF, 2021 – Payne is bigger, faster, and stronger than a year ago. She is also a tough competitor. Payne jumped passing lanes and showed she can go end-to-end with speed and finish. Occasionally muscled for position by stronger defenders but she showed physicality and strength as well. Has a quick mid-range jumper and good three point stroke.
