The top 5 in the class are extremely talented on a national scale. But for coaches outside of the nation’s elite, that would like a talent like those in the top 5, there are players lower in the rankings that remind me of those at the top. We’ll call them the “Top 5’s Twins”.
Damiya Hagemann Damiya Hagemann 5'8" | PG Detroit Edison | 2021 State #35 Nation MI (2021, PG, Detroit Edison) and Diamond Williams Diamond Williams PG Flint Beecher | 2021 State MI (2021, PG, Flint Beecher)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Rankings: #1 and #184
Hagemann is one of the smoothest and most skilled floor generals in the country. She is a terrific passer that finds scorers and delivers the ball with precision..
Williams is eerily similar. She is a little more pass first, but she finds her teammates when they have scoring chances. She’s an excellent passer and sees the floor, much like Hagemann.
Morasha Wiggins Morasha Wiggins 6'0" | SF Kalamazoo Central | 2021 State #42 Nation MI (2021, SF, Kalamazoo Central) and India Respress India Respress SF Chandler Park | 2021 State MI (2021, SF, Chandler Park)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Rankings: #2 and #94
Wiggins can score with the best of them, we all know that. But her game centers around her ability to guard any perimeter player in the country.
Respress is a grinder and hustle player that centers her game around playing D and doing the little things. It’s in a simliar mold of Wiggins. She can score, but will let the game come to her.
Bree Salenbien Bree Salenbien 6'2" | SF Lenawee Chrisrian | 2021 State #47 Nation MI (2021, SF, Lenawee Christian) and Paige VanStee Paige VanStee SF Thornapple-Kellogg | 2021 State MI (2021, SF, Thornapple-Kellog)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Rankings: #3 and #80
Salenbien has made a living off being a matchup nightmare. Her ability to score, pass, and defend, combined with her length, makes her virtually unstoppable.
VanStee has positioned her game in a similar fashion. She has incredible versatility, being able to effectively play probably 4 positions. This makes it incredibly tough for opposing coaches to find an answer.
Ally VanTimmeran (2021, PF, Jenison) and Emily Dixon Emily Dixon PF Chippewa Valley | 2021 State MI (2021, PF, Chippewa Valley)
Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Rankings; #4 and #57
VanTimmeran is a top post player in the midwest, much of that having to do with her ability to gain position in the paint and grab boards. Her game has gone to another level though, as her offensive game has evolved.
Dixon, much like VanTimmeran, is a natural force on the glass and defensively. And in similar fashion, as her offensive game has come to form, her overall game has gotten even stronger.
Jillian Brown Jillian Brown 5'10" | CG East Grand Rapids | 2021 State #55 Nation MI (2021, CG, East Grand Rapids) and Monica Williams Monica Williams CG Detroit King | 2021 State MI (2021, CG, Detroit King)
Brown is simply a threat to score from anywhere on the floor. She can play on or off the ball and is a true leader on and off the floor.
Williams is a prime scorer for Detroit King, and just like Brown, can do it from anywhere. She also has the ability to initiate the offense or step away from the ball.
