Continue ReadingPitt County girls basketball at all levels has been incredible over the past several years especially during the last two. Multiple teams were able to reach the 2019-20 state playoffs including one program that won their first state championship in over a decade. With teams revamping their respective rosters, this county is poised for another dominant season as a whole. Here are the top returning forwards to lookout for in Pitt County during the 2020-21 season.
A’miya Joyner (Farmville Central forward, 2022)
Joyner is one of the top 2022 prospects in not just North Carolina, but the entire country. In her first two seasons at Farmville Central, the team has gone 61-3 with two regional titles and one state title. At 6’2″, she does it all from finishing around the basket and defending the rim while also passing and handling the ball like a guard. She’s already received multiple offers from division one programs and her recruitment will only continue to rise going into her junior year. As long as Joyner is a Jaguar, Farmville Central will be one of the favorites to win the 2-A state championship in 2021.
Aquarius Pettaway (North Pitt forward, 2022)
RIsing junior Aquarius Pettaway is known to play with a lot of energy on both ends of the floor. She posted a double double average this past season at North Pitt helping them reach the second round of the state playoffs. Last year, she began to extend her range out to three and also improved her passing and ball handling. With the Panthers losing leading scorer Ashanti Hines to graduation, Pettaway will see an increase in scoring while continuing to be one of the best rebounders in the county.
Kayla Friend (South Central forward, 2022)
South Central’s Kayla Friend had a good sophomore season and is another 2022 prospect that could have a breakout junior year. She runs the floor well and scored a lot of her points in transition this past season. In addition, she made a lot of plays in the paint and showed the ability to hit mid-range jump shots from time to time. After leading the Falcons in scoring and rebounding, expect her to be a reason why they’re right back in the conference title discussion in 2021.
Alisha Anderson (D.H. Conley forward, 2021)
D.H. Conley rising senior forward Alisha Anderson does a lot of things that don’t show up in the box score. This past season, she was key in producing extra possessions and consistently knocked down big shots when her team needed it. She’ll likely see an increase in her role as a passer and scorer with leading scorer Jenna Wooten graduating. Anderson is still part of an excellent team returning to Conley and they should have another shot at a conference title and deep state playoff run.
