Living in the Metro St. Louis area I am lucky to be able to become familiar with many of the St Louis area kids, but I also watched the Semo Sizzle and their excellent team from the Cape Girardeau area. So, here are some familiar names and some new names that I have not written about in the past.
- Brooke Highmark Brooke Highmark 5'8" | PG Westminster | 2022 State MO is a 5’8 2022 Point Guard from Westminster Christian and Blue Star Silvey. Brooke is a quick guard that can handle the ball well and loves to push the ball in transition. She sees the floor well and can play the role of the floor general and distributor. But, where Brooke seems to really flourish is her ability to score in bunches when her team needs it. She has great form to her shot and can hit the 3 ball at a high rate when she has the space. Brooke loves to attack the rim and can find ways to finish in traffic. I have written about Brooke multiple times and I guess it is because each time I watch her play I continue to be impressed with her poise and ability.
- Carlie Vick Carlie Vick 6'2" | C Westminster | 2022 State MO Carlie is a 6’2 Post from Westminster Christian and Blue Star Silvey. Carlie has really shown improvement in her ability to hit shots around the lane this summer. She does a good job passing from the high post if she is paired with another big and shows some agility and athleticism when in the open court. Carlie really seems to thrive when she catches the ball in the 8-10 foot area. Her shot is very good in that range and she seems most comfortable in that space versus catching with her back to the the basket. Carlie has multiple D1 offers and has more schools on the prowl.
- Natalie Potts Natalie Potts 6'2" | PF Incarnate Word | 2023 State MO is a 6’2 2023 Forward from Incarnate Word and Blue Star 15u. Natalie is a very long skilled stretch 4 that can really score the basketball. She is very agile which is what allows her to really be effective in the lane. Most kids, especially with this much height, are not capable of catching, twisting and shooting all in one motion. Natalie is very good at it and is therefore very good on the screen and roll getting her shot off quickly before anyone can help or recover. She has range out to the 3 point line and has a nice shooting stroke. With a long and lean body it becomes important to get her feet set and body in balance as she is still improving her strength and it causes some shots to be short. Natalie brings that size and skill you do not see with most girls so she has the opportunity to be that special player that you always remember.
- Brooke Coffey Brooke Coffey 6'0" | SF Incarnate Word Academy | 2023 State MO is a 6’0 2023 Forward from Incarnate Word and St Louis Blue Star 15u. Brooke continues to show a nice offensive game. She is a good shooter than can hit from all three levels. She shows a nice spin move at the high post that she used to get to the rim all weekend long. Brooke is strong and rebounds well which translates in to her being an ideal Stretch 4 candidate. Brooke has an offer from Illinois St and interest is most certainly high. Her ceiling will mostly likely depend on her athletic ability and what positions she can guard on defense. No matter if she is a 3 or a 4, Brooke has very good skill on offense that many teams can use.
- Allie Turner is a 5’6 2024 Point Guard from John Burroughs and Blue Star 15u. Allie is a nice point guard that can put the ball in the hole, too. She handles it well and is quick with the ball which allows her to get to the spots on the floor that present her with good opportunities. If she is left open Allie can hit the 3-point shot and also does a good job of getting to the rim. Allie has a nice arsenal of creative finishes that she can use once she gets there to avoid any shot blockers.
- Alexa Rubel Alexa Rubel 6'0" | CG Cape Notre Dame | 2022 State MO is a 6’0 2022 Wing from Cape Girardeau Notre Dame and the Semo Sizzle. Lexi has a well rounded game that allows her to stuff the stat sheet and help her team in many ways. This was my first time seeing her and I came away impressed. She can take the ball to the basket and use her height to get shots off in the congestion in the lane. Lexi also has good range and the ability to get hot beyond the 3-point line. If you combine those offensive skills together with her ability to rebound, gets steals and block shots, she is a player that many coaches would love to have Lexi on their team. She has proven herself to be a big game player, if you look at the results of her high school games and her AAU games, the bigger the stage the bigger the performance from Lexi.
- Tori Rubel is a 6’1 2023 Wing from Cape Girardeau Notre Dame and Semo Sizzle. Tori is a long wing player that has a very good outside shot. She is very comfortable behind the 3-point line where she can get hot, quick. Tori uses her height to be a big help on the boards as well as causing problems on the defensive end. Tori does a very good job of catching off of screens and getting squared up and releasing her shot quickly. She is not afraid to put the ball on the floor if she is crowded and it equally comfortable going right or left. Tori is able to finish at the rim or pull up for the mid range jumper when she attacks the lane.
- Mia Nicastro Mia Nicastro 6'1" | SG St. Charles West | 2022 State MO is a 6’1 2022 Forward from St.Charles West and Blue Star Silvey. Mia seemed more comfortable and smooth on the court this week than I have seen her this summer. She has guard like skills that will seem to fit best in a dual wing/stretch 4 role in college. Playing AAU is an adjustment for many players because of the increased athleticism and all around talent. The last time I saw her Mia had seemed to still be in the adjustment period but this weekend she was able to use her dribble to create better spacing for shots. She seemed more smooth and confident and Mia was also shooting the ball well from deep which tends to help any players’ confidence. Mia will really help a college team looking for a hard worker that can handle the ball, shoot the ball and rebound.
As some of the teams start to slow down for the summer it was nice to get a chance to see some of the players, especially those I was seeing for the first time. There is an amazing amount height to go with the talent in this group. Missouri certainly has some players it will be fun to track.
