Here are some of the guards to watch at the Class B level:
Madelyn Schmidt Madelyn Schmidt 5'5" | CG Kidder County | 2021 State ND , Kidder County
Schmidt earned all-state honors for the second year in a row as a junior, averaging nearly 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. She’s terrific on the defensive end of the floor and does a great job harassing opposing ballhandlers while also putting pressure on the passing lanes. And she’s a skilled slasher, shot-creator and finisher.
Rozalind Strong Rozalind Strong 5'8" | CG Dunseith | 2022 State ND , Dunseith
Strong is one of the best pure scorers in Class B, possessing the length, athletic tools and skills to dominate games like few can. She’s a solid 3-point shooter, a strong finisher inside and an adept playmaker. She averaged 22 points per game a year ago. Dunseith could be a sleeper in Region 4 and Strong is a big reason why.
Carlee Sieben Carlee Sieben 5'8" | PG Grafton | 2021 State ND , Grafton
Sieben is the leader for a Grafton team that will be ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 when the season starts, as she is arguably the best lead guard in the state. As a junior, she averaged 19 points and four assists, while leading the Spoilers to the state championship game. She’s a terrific multi-level scorer, a smooth playmaker and capable of guarding just about anybody in an opposing lineup.
Kenzie Hughes, Thompson
Hughes was the offensive engine for the Tommies last year, averaging 21 points and more than three assists per game, earning all-state honors for the second year in a row. She might have to do even more as a senior, as Thompson has lost a lot of its core over the last two years. Hughes gets it done on both ends of the floor too, as she’s an elite level perimeter defender for a team that will win with defense.
Kendra Prouty, St. John
Prouty stuffed the stat sheet in a big way for the Woodchucks, averaging 18 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, nearly three blocks and more than six steals as a junior. She’s a two-way terror, capable of guarding just about anybody on the opposing team. And she’s an efficient scorer who is capable of putting up 20-plus points per game if she improves her shooting even marginally.
