Continue ReadingIt is almost the end of August, which means prospects across South Florida are heading back to school (sorta). Good luck to everyone on the start of a new year and most of all be safe. In a follow-up to part one, many freshman are looking to capitalize on their success from year one on the high school level.
Let’s get into this list…
Tae Carey – University School
Carey simply got better as her freshman season progressed last year. Over her last seven games, Carey scored in double-digits in five of those contests. In that span, the Shark captain posted a season-high 22 points against Mater Lakes Academy. Carey followed that up with 17 points against the Bears later in the year. The rising sophomore has all the physical tools to be a future star. Specifically, Carey has the size and athleticism to cause mismatch problems. If you care to do some research, her namesake in South Florida is pretty strong. Personally, I like to leave that to the side as she looks to make a name for herself on the hardwood.
Brooke Rebhan – Westminster Christian
Rebhan has a bright future playing for the Warriors. The rising sophomore averaged 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 steals across 19 games last season. A combo guard, Rebhan will return as the Warriors leading scorer looking to improve on a 8-14 year. Additionally, her swipes on defense were a team-best. Rebhan posted ten games with three or more steals last season. Heading into this fall, I would like to see her become a more consistent shooter. Luckily, Rebhan already has a head start on playing time in year two. She holds a 4.54 GPA and also plays softball for the Warriors.
Abrianna Marshall – Marathon
We go deep here at Prep Girls Hoops to find players under the radar. Marshall averaged 10.5 points across 16 games all the way down in Marathon. The 5-foot-7 guard/wing scored a season-high 23 points against Florida Christian. Marshall will return as the teams leading scorer from last season.
Taylor Blackshear – Benjamin
The Benjamin School looks prime for another big season with four of its five scorers returning this fall. The Lady Bucs went 22-7 last season, including a two-point victory over Oxbridge Academy in the district championship. One of those players in the mix is Taylor Blackshear. The sophomore shooting guard averaged 7.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.8 steals in 2019-2020. Against Jupiter Christian, Blackshear scored a season-high 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting. Moreover, her 17 rebounds (11 offensive) were her best on the year. Blackshear posted nine games in which she grabbed ten or more rebounds. On the defensive end, Blackshear had a pair of nine steal performances.
Katie McCabe – Cardinal Newman
Point guard Katie McCabe has the makings of a solid back-court player up in West Palm Beach. The rising sophomore will look to catapult the Crusaders past their 9-16 mark from last season. McCabe averaged 6.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 steals in 2019-2020. Per MaxPreps, McCabe scored in double-digits in four games.
Gaby Toledo – Wellington
Toledo was a bright spot on a Wellington team that went 4-19 last season. The freshman captain averaged 9.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals across 23 games. Against Boynton Beach, Toledo scored 17 points and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers. Overall, the rising sophomore scored in double-digits in 12 games. Toledo is a good option as both a point guard and shooting guard. The Wolverines return virtually its entire roster from last season. In the classroom, Toledo is a 4.0 student.
