Continue ReadingUnfortunately this summer has been filled with many cancellations and postponements of basketball tournaments and camps. One event that will go on as scheduled is A Shot For Life. This is a high level basketball event combined with a fundraising component. Founder Mike Slonina started this program in 2011 and since has raised thousands of dollars for the Dr. Curry Research Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital. There is a boys and girls roster which went through a nomination, interview and selection process over the last nine months. Next Wednesday August 5th at the University Sports Complex in Hanover 16 of the best female basketball players from across the state will compete to see who the “Best Shooter in Massachusetts” will be. Here is a look at the Players To Watch on this super talented roster.
Kayla Madden 2020 Ashland – Coming off an ACL injury this talented guard is a former TVL all star and will be playing her college basketball at Springfield College.
Maria Olivierre Maria Olivierre 5'8" | SF Beaver Country Day | 2021 State MA 2021 Beaver Country Day – One of the best returning players in the state and our 12th ranked prospect in the rising senior class. Excellent scorer around the basket will be fun to watch.
Shay Bollin Shay Bollin 6'3" | SF Bridgewater-Raynham | 2022 #26 Nation MA 2022 Bridgewater-Raynham – The number 1 ranked player in the Class of 2022 in Massachusetts and the Prep Girls Hoop nationally ranked 26th in the country could put on a show. Offers from almost every high major school she should be one of the favorites to win the competition.
Sam Souza 2020 Rivers – This sharp shooting guard will be headed to Division 3 National powerhouse Tufts University.
Grace Bennis 2020 Hingham – The 2020 Patriot League MVP and career 1,000 point scorer is taking her talents to Connecticut College in the fall.
Olivia Quinn Olivia Quinn 6'0" | SG Franklin | 2022 State MA 2022 Franklin – 1st team Hockomock League all star last year averaged 15ppg and shot almost 40% from beyond the arc. The 5th ranked player in the Massachusetts class of 2022, she is hearing from several Division 1 schools.
Lauren Beach Lauren Beach 6'1" | SF Medway | 2021 State MA 2021 Medway – The reigning MVP of the Tri – Valley League averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds a game last year. She is starting to pick up Division 1 offers.
Brenna McDonald 2020 Natick – The Yale bound, Bay State Conference Carey Division M.V.P. was an absolute force in the paint last season. But do not be suprised if she puts on a show as she is able to face the basket and make jumpers well beyond the line.
Maiya Bergdorf Maiya Bergdorf 6'1" | SF St. Marys - Lynn | 2021 State MA 2021 St. Marys – The defending state champion is already committed to Sacred Heart University and is the 4th ranked player in the Class of 2021 in Massachusetts.
Kiaya McIntyre 2020 Needham – The St. Leo commit was the M.V.P. of the Bay State Conference last winter and could be a real contender to win the title as she can score from all over the court.
Emma Simmons 2020 Carver – This 1,000 point scorer averaged over 18 points a game last season for the Crusaders. She will be playing at Eastern Connecticut State University.
Rachel McMenemy 2020 Groton School – This 1,000 point scorer was a 1st team NEPSAC all star and is an excellent outside shooter.
Nariah Scott Nariah Scott 5'10" | SG Tabor | 2021 State MA 2021 Tabor – The Providence commit could be a front runner in this years competition. She is currently the 3rd ranked player in Massachusetts in the Class of 2021.
Kenzie Matulonis Kenzie Matulonis 5'6" | PG Bridgewater - Raynham | 2021 State MA 2021 Bridgewater Raynham – The University of New Hampshire commit can score in a multitude of ways. She is currently the 5th ranked player in Massachusetts in the Class of 2021.
Megan Olbrys Megan Olbrys 6'1" | PF Norwood | 2022 State NewE 2021 Norwood – The 19th ranked player in the Class of 2022 has a great touch around the basket and can face up. Should be in the mix tomorrow night.
Jen Martin 2022 Bradford Christian – Absolute deadly knock down shooter with a great offensive skill set.
Avery Burns Avery Burns 5'6" | SG Nauset | 2021 State MA 2021 Nauset – Excellent outside shooter, she has been working hard with the Swish Cape Cod program and is one of the best shooter in Massachusetts. The 26th ranked player in her class hit 63 shots from deep last year.
