Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2023’s who need to be on your radar.
Halie Vice – Pleasant Valley
As a newcomer to the varsity scene, Halie Vice stepped in nicely and provided solid production off the bench for Pleasant Valley.
Now, a year older, the Class of 2023 Vice should have an even bigger role moving forward.
In 23 games last season, Vice scored 125 points with 42 steals, 27 assists and 23 rebounds. Se made 22 three-pointers, which ranked third on the team overall and also sank 71 percent of her free throws.
Kensie Staats – Pleasant Valley
Another part-time player for Pleasant Valley from the Class of 2023 last year was Kensie Staats.
She saw action in just six games, but scored 10 points with six rebounds. All three of her made field goals were three-pointers, showing her abilities from long-range.
Emma Keiper – Cedar Rapids Prairie
Not many members from the Class of 2023 saw the court in this region last year.
Cedar Rapids Prairie, like Pleasant Valley, featured a handful of them. Emma Keiper played in 10 games with one start, scoring five points and grabbing four rebounds with two steals. All four of her boards came on the offensive glass.
Chloe Heefner – Cedar Rapids Prairie
Another Class of 2023 player to see the court for Cedar Rapids Prairie last season was Chloe Heefner.
In seven games, Heefner collected four points with six rebounds and a steal.
Madeline White – Davenport West
A future on the blocks looks promising for Davenport West’s Class of 2023 player Madeline White.
While she only played in one game last year, getting on the court in Class 5A as a freshman is a feat in and of itself. In that appearance, White scored two points and grabbed a pair of rebounds.
