Continue ReadingI was taken way back when I saw FBC United 17U walk on the floor at the Mansfield Fieldhouse with 4 or 5 players 6’3 or better and this was prevalent when I attended my first exposure event over 16 years ago. Back then, only a handful of Texas teams were traveling across the country but it gave me a glimpse of what was out there which is why I have encouraged parents and players to observe if they’re fortunate enough to be playing in these type of events to see what’s out there and what they need work on. Although I rarely travel out of Texas to see games, I don’t need to because as I’ve said countless times, “I know where the bar has been set” yet some of the insane stuff that constantly flows on social media sounds like someone has “sat at the bar” a little longer than they should have but here’s a quick hitter as they won the top bracket, ironically named the Storm as we prepare for a big one down here
2021
Raven Johnson Raven Johnson 5'10" | PG Westlake | 2021 State #20 Nation GA -5’10 PG (Westlake HS)
Johnson had me captivated almost instantaneously and watching her flow effortlessly on the offensive end was something to see. She has range, she creates her shot and explodes to the basket, finishes with contact, and even showed me a turnaround jumper but her court vision and making passes for assists that aren’t even there just had SMH over and over. She’s strong, defends and rebounds the same way plus she has “UPS” and after looking at the roster, I realized I had tagged her erroneously on Twitter a few times as she politely corrected me but she is truly Hollywood
Demauri Flournoy-5’7 SG
Flournoy has “bullets” written by her name which means “she threads the needle on the money” and I could add “like a master seamstress” but a couple of “no looks” for assists later, she showed she could shoot it, mid to long-range as well as take defenders off the dribble
2022
Ashlyn Watkins-6’3 PF
Watkins is long and athletic like many of her teammates so for those who don’t know, that’s the base I use when evaluating certain positions and her rebounding on both ends of the floor not to leave out “running the floor and finishing” after igniting the break was refreshing. She defends well, has good timing and has also finished strong in the paint
Lazaria Spearman Lazaria Spearman 6'3" | PF Dacula | 2022 State #25 Nation GA -6’3 PF
Spearman’s upside is scary, she battles on the inside for rebounds, understands positioning and runs the floor but not only does she finish, but she also finishes with power and with her size and length, she is going to create some issue

Letycia Vasconcelos Letycia Vasconcelos 6'7" | C Montverde Academy | 2023 State FL -6’7 C
Vasconcelos has very good timing and you would expect that with her wingspan but it goes beyond that because she does things instinctively on both ends of the floor. Her ability to alter, deflect, or block shots is pretty good right now but I can only envision on what it will become down the road. She also has some nice inside moves and finished well
Milaysia Fulwiley-5’8 PG/SG
Fulwiley showed immediately she could push the ball going full speed under control and when you can mix it up by making passes going full speed, on the money or just attack and finish acrobatically, both in transition, that’s huge and says a lot about her athleticism but what she does is natural, she doesn’t have to think about it and watching her drop it from deep was just icing on the cake
