The Northern Colorado-based team’s roster features plenty of unheralded talent from the area, as well as several players who are already becoming household names in the state. We caught up with the Titans head coach Carlee Lough to find out who’s pacing the programs hot start.
Here are the Titans who have been the mightiest of them all so far in 2020.
Colorado Titans U17 Gold
Sarah Hill, 2021, 6’0, SF/C, Erie High School
Hill is a senior sleeper who swung up and played in 13 varsity games last season but didn’t get much time on the court playing for a deep Tigers roster. With her size, excellent work ethic and multidimensional play, she will definitely be one to watch at Erie in the spring. A versatile four-five who can not only get to the rim but also shoot in the mid-range and 3-point shot consistently, Hill is a latecomer to the club basketball scene. Still, she stands out on both ends of the court and is able to defend both guards and posts. Hill is also not afraid to get on the floor and make the hustle plays. Club director Carlee Lough says Hill is the all-around team player who does the little things and is the glue girl for Colorado Titans U17 Gold.
Mary Maher, 2021, 5’6, PG, Mead High School
Maher is next in a line of ballers named Maher who have attended Mead High School. She is a quick point guard who isn’t intimidated by anyone and just like her older brothers, Maher is a sniper from behind the arc but isn’t afraid to drive into the paint and finish. Maher is a very well-rounded player, always looking to be vocal on the court and make the hustle plays. Tied for first on the Titans in taking charges, you can always count on her to be there for her team defensively. She averaged 4.7 points and 3.6 assists for Mead last winter. With her high school team having graduated so few players, it will be exciting to see what Maher and the rest of the Mavericks accomplish in the spring.
Julia Mischke Julia Mischke 5'6" | SG Centaurus | 2021 State CO , 2021, 5’7, G, Centaurus High School
A coach’s daughter, Mischke is a tenacious defender that frustrates teams with her quickness, speed and physicality. She lets her defense fuel her offense and with a consistent mid-range game, she can score from anywhere on the court. Mischke is tied with Maher first in charges taken this summer. Always making the extra pass and knocking down clutch threes, she is a well-rounded guard who will have an opportunity to lead a young team at Centaurus that is looking to make a splash in 2020-21. She averaged 12.3 points per game as a junior last winter.
Makena Englund, 2021, 5’9, SG, Fairview High School
Englund was a strong contributor on a Fairview varsity team that reached the Sweet 16 in Class 5A last winter. Although her shot may look unconventional, she is a money shooter from behind the 3-point arc. With quick handles and a long first step, she can get past just about any defender. Her size doesn’t depict her length or athletic ability. Being a varsity goalkeeper for Fairview High, she has some hops that she uses to explode to the rim on the basketball court, as well as to rip down rebounds. Englund is an all-around player who is sure to help Fairview stay relevant in the Front Range League and looks to be positioned for a breakout campaign with the Knights in 2020-21 after averaging seven points a game as a junior.
Savana Kascak, 2021, 5’8, SG, Flatirons Academy
She may go to a small school but Kascak doesn’t play like a small-town athlete. Savana is a long 5-foot-8 guard who is going it all for the Titans this summer. She averaged 11.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 steals for Flatirons Academy this past high school season and has brought that versatile production to her club. Kascak can guard a post or a guard and is not afraid to be physical. With a quick trigger, she isn’t afraid to let it fly from behind the arc either.
Colorado Titans U16 Gold
Kailey Page Kailey Page 5'10" | PF Fairview | 2022 State CO , 2022, 6’0, SF, Fairview
Page took some significant steps forward this past winter, averaging 10.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, two steals and 2.2 blocks per game. But she has grown since the high school season and has really improved her game from behind the arc. That’s a major development for a powerhouse small forward like Page who is versatile and can guard any player on the court. If she continues to improve the way she has been this summer, expect Page to be on the short list for player of the year in the Front Range League as a junior in 2020-21.
Maddox Boston, 2022, 5’10, SG, Mead High School
A versatile guard who can get to the rim and finish, Boston was a revelation for the Mavericks in 2019-20. She is crafty and quick with her handles, and has great length for a player of her size and position. Returning to Mead as a junior after averaging 9.9 points a night last winter, this standout is sure to continue on her current path and rise to the top of the Northern League in all categories of the game.
Jacklyn Stephenson, 2022, 5’11, C, Mead High School
Stephenson is a force to be reckoned with on the block and has the potential to develop into a top 10 center in the state of Colorado. Although she is raw, Stephenson is not afraid to be physical in the post and more than holds her own even against players who are taller than she is. Extremely athletic and light on her feet with crafty post moves, Stephenson is a handful is with the ball in her hands down low. She also isn’t your typical center, and can get to the rim off the dribble as well as shoot the three ball.
Colorado Titans U16 Gold
Charlotte Brennan Charlotte Brennan 5'6" | CG Mead | 2023 State CO , 2023, 5’3, PG, Mead High School
This point guard has some wheels on her. She may be short but she is what the Titans call a water mouse because she is everywhere on the court, getting steals, deflections and pressuring girls to make turnovers. Along with her strong defensive game, Brennan will attack the rim and finish with the best guards in her league. She is working to improve her 3-point shot and will have a much bigger role to play for the Mavericks in the spring.
Samantha Sterritt, 2023, 6’3, C, Centaurus High School
A big, young center for Centaurus, Sterritt is sure to make a splash on the varsity roster this upcoming high school season. Averaging at least 10 rebounds a game this summer, Sterritt is a powerhouse defender with great length at 6-foot-3. Already with strong back-to-the-basket play in her game, Sterritt looks to back down her opponents and finish over either shoulder. Her height and athletic ability alone give Sterritt high upside and she’ll be a player to watch moving forward.
