Al Schell put together a two day scrimmage in the mountains of Maryland with his host team Power Move being joined by Fairfax Stars, Maryland Belles and DC Premier. I was on hand for the Sunday action that had a mixture of 16U and 15U teams with the Power Move team holding serving in each game. There were several players that stood out in during the day. Her are a few that impressed.
Standout Players:
Ny’Cera Pryor – Point Guard – Power Move 16U – 2022
Ny’Cera was hands down the top player I saw in the building. She is an extremely quick point guard the has the ball on a string. She can hit from any level on the floor and finds gaps to finish with either hand in the paint dispite standing around 5’3’. Her shot from beyond the arc is efficient allowing her to easily blow by defenders that must close out or make them pay for not doing so.
Zanai Barrett-Gay – Guard – Fairfax Stars 16U – 2022
Zanai controled the action from the point guard position. She finished well on drives and was active cutting the back door. She is a solid guard with a good three point shot.
Alden Yergey – Point Guard – Fairfax Stars 16U – 2023
Alden got the top shooter award, effortlessly knocking down the three pointer at will when open. She has a really good form with her shot and can handle the ball well under pressure.
Gianni Boone Gianni Boone 5'10" | SF St. John’s College | 2022 State MD – Wing – Fairfax Stars 16U – 2022
Gianni’s game continues to improve making her one of the area’s premier wing players. She can bring the ball down and run the offense but is particularly effective attacking the basket and is har to guard after changing directions.
Gabrielle Johnson Gabrielle Johnson 5'7" | PG Western | 2022 State MD – Guard – Power Move 16U
Gabby shot the mid range shot really well. She was one one the best rebounding guards that I’ve seen in a while. Her speed makes her really effective in transition as she can grab the ball and go beating most players to the other end even if they had a head start. She finished really well and had nice looking shot from three.
Cydney Curtis – Guard – Power Move 16U – 2022
Cydney shot the three really well and was perfect from beyond the arc when given time to eye the rim. She was very active moving around the floor which put pressure on the defense as they needed to know where she was at all times.
