These players are usually found setting screens, hustling, rebounding and playing defense. They are more than happy filling their role and could take that same effort and desire to the next level.
- Katelynne Roberts is a 6’2 2021 Post from Edwardsville and Blue Star 17u. Katelynne is a high motor and effort player that uses her length to rebound and defend. She does a good job of setting screens and playing a fundamentally sound game. Katelynne has a nice left hand jump hook in the lane and passes the ball well. She currently holds an offer from D2 Maryville in St. Louis. She has played in successful programs and knows how to play winning basketball. Katelynne gives all out effort and is a nice rim protector and area rebounder.
- Izzy Hardiek Izzy Hardiek 5'11" | PF Teutopolis | 2022 State IL is a 5’11 Forward from Teutopolis and Indiana Elite Havoc 2022. Izzy is a physical player that can rebound and defend in the post or on the wing. She has a nice jump shot from the mid range and gets points from running the floor hard and being active on the boards. Izzy has also been working hard to improve her ball skills and outside shot. Her improvement was noticed by her high school team where she won the award for most improved player. She comes from a good program and has sound fundamentals which should impress D3 and NAIA level coaches.
- Astacia Bush is a 5’10 2021 Wing from Collinsville and Crossover. Astacia is a strong wing that brings the a frame that allows her to defend and rebound in the post too. She has decent ball handling and moves on the wing that makes her a nice dual threat. Her shot will need some additional work but she can and will shoot the three if left open. Astacia has plenty of room to improve her game but with her solid body and competitive nature, I believe she should be watched by D3/JC coaches.
- Azaria Moore is a 5’11 2022 Wing from Granite City and Brad Beal Elite 2022. Azaria is a very unselfish player that has a great understanding of the game and how to play it. Although she is always one of the more skilled players on the floor she is most focused on how to use those skills to help her teammates. Azaria is most focused on passing, screening and rebounding. If she is left open she will take the shot but is more than comfortable helping others get an open shot and then crashing the boards.
- Zsana Hawkins is a 5’10 2023 Post from O’Fallon and Brad Beal Elite 2023. Z is a big bodied post player that shows good quickness with her feet and surprising agility. She sets good screens and rebounds well for her team. Z will get good post position and will roll to the basket after setting the high screen to find quick and easy baskets. She is a hard worker that is always drenched in sweat when she comes of the court in a work out. She is still young but should certainly be watched by lower level schools looking for a strong player in the post that will compete with girls taller than her.
There are many girls out there doing the dirty work to help their team win games. These 5 have caught my eye during the summer sessions so far. Every college coach is looking for players that can fill a role, not just players that think they are on the floor to score 20 points per game. These players fit that bill and should be watched.
