The Northwest Greyhounds and Northwest Blazers each sent several teams down to the event and performed well overall. The Blazers took home the 15u and 17u Gold East Division championships. There are a handful of prospects that stood out in the games that I was able to view.
2021 5’11 SG Talia von Oelhoffen Talia von Oelhoffen 5'11" | SG Chiawana | 2021 State #22 Nation WA (NW Blazers Orange) gave multiple strong offensive showings, including some really nifty passes in a win over West Coast Premier’s top team that would go on to win the event. The Oregon State commit was crafty finishing around the basket and willingly gave the ball up to balance out her scoring output. A strong overall performance.
2022 6’1 PF Naya Ojukwu (NW Blazers Orange) had multiple long streaks of dominance inside. Her touch off the glass from all angles is impressive to say the least, as she finds a way to finish shots that many could not. Her rebounding on the offensive end also gives her team so many extra possessions. A stock riser from the weekend and Summer all around.
2022 5’11 SF Zahirah Walton Zahirah Walton 5'11" | SG Kentlake | 2022 State WA (NW Greyhounds 17u) showed off her great natural ability. Walton has been on our radar for some time and she continues to show flashes of greatness from the wing position. The game comes pretty easy to her and continued all around development will help her to reach her full potential down the line. A Division 1 prospect in the 2022 class.
2023 5’5 PG Malia Samuels Malia Samuels 5'7" | PG Garfield | 2023 State #46 Nation WA (NW Greyhounds 17u) showed off her outstanding quickness and shifty moves that can break ankles. Samuels is oftentimes the smallest player on the floor, but she can impact the game at a high level on both sides of the ball with her athleticism and skill.
2022 6’4 PF Lauren Glazier Lauren Glazier 6'4" | PF Mt. Si | 2022 State WA (NW Blazers Grey) helped lead her team to a championship and she immediately stood out in the couple games I watched. Her length, mobility and developing skill set catches the eye. She had a nice runner and finished through contact well in one of the games, showing improvement in that aspect of her game. Glazier recently picked up an offer from WSU and will surely have more HM’s on her here quickly.
The NW Blazers Fierce 15u team made multiple statements in this event, blowing out their competition top to bottom. 2024 5’7 PG Teagan Colvin is the engine behind everything, but others such as 2023 6’0 PF Madison Symons (ID) make an all around impact with great passing, cutting and rebounding.
