To know Caden Krohn Caden Krohn 6'0" | PF Waukesha West | 2023 State WI ’s game, is to know elite talent. During her first season on varsity, Krohn entered a tough Classic Eight conference. She finished the season leading her team in points, averaging 10.8 per game- very impressive for an inexperienced prospect at the varsity level. She showed glimpses of greatness on both ends and her upside for the next three seasons at Waukesha West was obvious.
Fast forward to AAU season- Caden Krohn Caden Krohn 6'0" | PF Waukesha West | 2023 State WI joins Wisconsin Shooters and is ready to put all the potential onto the court. At 6’1 Krohn covers so much ground when attacking the basket and finishing. She uses her length better than most prospects I’ve seen play this summer when finishing at the rim. She’s an active post player who likes to get outside and move within the offense- great for the next level. She works well in a high tempo, moving system as she has extreme athleticism and stamina. She is certainly comfortable working with guards in a pick and roll and can finish strong slashing to the hoop. Her versatility allows her to be multi-dimensional as well- most expect her to attack the rim but she’s really developed her perimeter confidence and will knock shots down from deep.
An outstanding two way player, having a player like Krohn on your roster is a key to balanced scoring and stops on the other end. She doesn’t gamble too much on shot blocking, but is definitely becoming more balanced with her body and confident deciding when she can alter shots. Her size allows her to be a fierce intimidator in the lane- her presence already makes the offense adjust and force shots from the perimeter. She keeps her hands high and feet moving in the lane and opponents have a hard time finding position on her. This summer she’s become advanced on the perimeter and her footwork is beyond impressive. Her ability to get out and defend a stretch 4 or even a 3 guard is exceptional. Something to note for a player her height.
Her most impressive aspect however, is her ability to knock down the three point basket. The kid can shoot it. Her stroke is exceptionally smooth and her release is well timed and strong. Her range extended far beyond the arc and she is not frazzled by a defender in her face. Krohn continued to develop her transition three point percentage- which will make her lethal at the next level. The 6’1 wing is tremendous off the catch on the wing but can create some space and use her handles to get a shot off if need be.
Caden Krohn Caden Krohn 6'0" | PF Waukesha West | 2023 State WI is a powerful wing/forward combo that plays with brute strength. Her physicality is noticeable immediately, and she utilizes her well-built frame in a multitude of ways. This summer she showed how competitive, consistent and successful she will be in the years to come.
Runner Up:
Mallory Hoitink – Purple Aces – 5’10 G/W
Hoitink is a smooth guard with a great maturity for her age. She has good size for her position which allows her to slide from point guard to shooting guard in some cases. She also rebounds her position so well. The Purple Aces standout is a smooth overall and does not mind when defenders press up on her or pick her up away from the basket. As long as she has her dribble, she is very deadly- maintaining her dribble is a major strength, and it keeps her on balance and in control. She is an effective slasher through the lane, and she has an innate ability to avoid the defense and step around them without committing an illegal move. She has a tremendous release to her shot and ability to knock down shots from far beyond the arc. After a standout season the 5’10 guard earned offers from Binghamton University, North Dakota, Northern Illinois and San Jose State.
Honorable Mention:
Lexi Bugjaski – Wisconsin Impact – 6’0 F
Bugjaski is a physically advanced prospect with a high ceiling. She is and has been considerably bigger than competition her entire life; but has grown up using this to her advantage. So now that players are now around the same height as her- she has the skills and power to stay elite. She knows how to use her body to overpower defenders. She possesses elite athleticism which she uses to finish at the rim. She continues to improve her shooting as her stroke is fairly clean, especially off the dribble, but she consistently is developing. Her passing skills are notable as well- she consistently finds open teammates, and she can even pass out of the post quite well. Cutting through the lane and to open space is also a major strength. Not many defenders are going to want to step in front of a player her size cutting down the lane. Bugjaski can play and defend positions 2-4 with added muscle.
Abbie Dix Abbie Dix 5'11" | PF Brodhead | 2023 WI – Let It Rain – 5/11 W/PF
Dix has ideal height, and her athleticism is certainly above average for the position. She jabs her hands into passing lanes frequently, and she often picks off steals and finds her open guards in transition. She’s an elite rebounder as well- holding position well inside and chasing down boards with quickness. Once Dix gets the smallest bit of space on the defender she is knocking down the basket. She has a great touch and quick release that are super tough to stop. She’s adding some finishing at the rim that would make her a three level scorer without a doubt. Her effortless three point shooting has landed her some interest after her freshman AAU season and they will only continue to add up.
