Point Guards
Cierra Watkins Cierra Watkins 5'6" | PG Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2023 State SD 5’6 Sioux Falls Roosevelt H.S., SD Network
True to form of a quintessential point guard. Watkins has the natural leadership qualities. Shei is able to control the tempo of any game. Whether her team needs to play fast or slow it down, Watkins runs the show. She probes through the defense seeking out the best option for her team. Defensively she is a pest. Picking up defenders full court, spearheading the trap, calling out assignments, she does it all!
Taryn Hettich Taryn Hettich 5'4" | SG Aberdeen Central | 2023 State SD 5’4 Aberdeen Central H.S., Sacred Hoops
Hettich will be vital for Aberdeen Central. They are one of few teams that have two really solid point guards in Hettich and Melanie Jacobs Melanie Jacobs 5'5" | PG Aberdeen Central | 2021 State SD . Hettich can distribute the ball well. She knows how to get in and out of the paint, finding her shooters and slashers.
Addie Fawcett Addie Fawcett 5'8" | PG Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2023 State SD 5’6 Sioux Falls Lincoln H.S. SD Attack
Fawcett is another player that leads by example. She doesn’t say much, but she does a lot. She’s great in the half court where she scopes things out and sets up her teammates. Has an improved three-pointer, which she uses to keep opponents on their toes.
Shooting/Combo Guards
Alexus Motley Alexus Motley 5'7" | CG Sioux Falls Washington | 2023 State SD 5’7 Combo Guard Sioux Falls Washington H.S., SD Network
From baseline to baseline, Motley might be the fastest player in transition. Coming off a great grassroots season, she began to gain some buzz. Quick around the perimeter, athletic around the rim. Motley can finish over, around and even through defenders. Sioux Falls Washington 2023 class is stacked with talent.
Olivia Kieffer Olivia Kieffer 5'10" | CG Rapid City Christian | 2023 State SD 5’10 Combo Guard Rapid City Christian KFD Swish
Kieffer didn’t play much AAU ball this summer, you know with the whole Covid thing. However, she is still one of the better players in the state. Accolades of All-State team member are already in the books. Next up is putting her team in position to compete for a state title. Scoring at a clip of 23ppg last year, this season, don’t be surprised if she is flirting around 30ppg….
Jessy VanDerwerff 5’7 Combo Guard Gregory H.S., SD Attack
As a freshman, VanDerwerff had a school record breaking 39 points in one game. She followed up that performance with making the second team in the Southeast South Dakota Conference. VanDerwerff can definitely score the ball. She is quick enough to penetrate the defense but sound enough to know when to take the outside shot. A game changer at all levels.
Brooklyn Harpe 5’11 Combo Guard Sioux Falls Washington H.S., SD Network
Another one of those untapped prospects out of Sioux Falls Washington is Brooklyn Harpe. Harpe is a bonified scorer. She has great length and looks longer and taller when handling the ball. Harpe attacks the rim with grace and swanlike movement. She knocks down open shots at a high rate. Harpe started a few games from SFW last year. This year she may step into a full-time starting role.
Remington Price Remington Price 5'7" | SG Pierre | 2023 State SD 5’6 Combo Guard Pierre H.S., SD Attack
Price made the first annual All-Capital Journal First team as a freshman. The teams are compiled with players from Pierre T.F. Riggs, Stanley County and Sully Buttes high schools. Price has a rocket from the three-point line, she’s beyond a threat from deep. She had multiple games where she was the team leader in points scored. Fast forward to the AAU season, Price continued her flame throwing ways.
