Anna Hefner commits to Western Colorado University
Erie senior Anna Hefner Anna Hefner 5'11" | PF Erie | 2021 State CO is made for the big stage. Only last February, her game-winning basket to beat Holy Family altered the power-struck Tri-Valley League while ending the Tigers’ six-year drought over the league foe.
But where do the shot-makers and those who gleam in the spotlight go in dark?
With the girls basketball recruiting period labored with the unknown since March, in-person recruitment has been sparse around the country due to the coronavirus. Hefner, though, found a way through it.
The 2021 forward/center announced her commitment via Twitter to Western Colorado University over the weekend. There, she will join Ralston Valley senior Brooklyn Seymour Brooklyn Seymour 5'11" | PF Ralston Valley | 2021 State CO who also recently made her commitment to play in Gunnison.

Hefner averaged 10 points per game and 7.2 rebounds for the Tigers last winter.
Surrounded by young, talented guards in Grace Moyers Grace Moyers 5'8" | CG Erie | 2022 CO and Genevieve Gudino Genevieve Gudino 5'6" | CG Erie | 2021 State CO , who racked up 3s like they were on sale, Hefner never was far with the game on the line. The 5-foot-11 forward’s playmaking ability often comes from hustle plays, and a lot of the time those come defensively, where she turns blocks and steals into fastbreak points.
Hefner rose up from a promising freshman, who averaged 5.2 points and 4.5 rebounds, to a well-rounded prospect. Her field goal percentage has been above 50 the last two seasons. She also has pushed her free throw efficiency up too, climbing from 41 percent as a freshman to 64 percent a season ago.
Last February’s game-winner over Holy Family capped an 18-point, 75 percent shooting night, and ultimately led to a three-way tie for the league crown. From there, she helped lead Erie to the Eight Great, where it was finally upended by Berthoud.
Fitting finish to an awesome atmosphere here at Holy Family. Erie beats Holy Family, 52-50, with Anna Hefner putting in the go-ahead basket at the end! The Tri-Valley League race just got a whole lot tighter. #copreps @BoCoPreps @ErieHSAthletics @HF_Athletics @CHSAA @PGHColorado pic.twitter.com/v0arDPqeyS
