Continue ReadingI’m somewhat blushing about players I had written about after the initial impression and how they leave me with a more lasting impression a while later and two of those players, Precious Jackson-Sanders Precious Jackson-Sanders PF Aldine MacArthur | 2022 State TX , made my Tip Sheet a couple of years ago while Taylor Jones Taylor Jones 5'5" | CG Oak Ridge | 2024 State TX made one at Pass Tha Ball’s The South last season so one more time, I know what I’m looking at, put yourself in a position to be seen because I can spot a deepfake video with my eyes closed yet I also can spot talent with the blink of an eye. Thanks to those who turned in rosters, especially ahead of time, I don’t like going back and adding once I get in the zone yet nevertheless here we go
Lady Defenders
I already talked about Aniyah Foy Aniyah Foy 6'0" | SG Cinco Ranch | 2025 State TX in the STANDOUT article I did for the Kingwood Classic but a couple of players who I have no clue on their names were impressive as well. The point guard saw the floor, was athletic, and attacked well while the power forward showed #BEASTLIKE moments as she battled for everything
Rice Raptors Legacy
Taylor Jones Taylor Jones 5'5" | CG Oak Ridge | 2024 State TXJones will be added to the 2024 Watchlist in a couple of weeks and as they say where I’m from “that’s a done deal” but she’s showing that she’s definitely going to be hard to deal with on the court. She attacks strongly, handles the ball under pressure, and creates her shot but she can also shoot the long ball very well and accuracy means a lot, especially when she can “catch and shoot” so Oak Ridge should be a must-see for me
Precious Jackson-Sanders Precious Jackson-Sanders PF Aldine MacArthur | 2022 State TXJackson-Sanders is long and athletic, rebounds on both ends, in fact, she can ignite the break with a rebound and outlet and run the floor and finish on the other end and speaking of finishing, she does that strong, after contact. Solid defense in the paint, she even stepped out to defend but she also does what I truly love to see players do and that’s play the passing lane
Thaisilyn Payton
Payton is a junior, like Jackson-Sanders and she plays with her at Macarthur High School in Aldine but she just plays hard and is one of those “never takes a play off type of player” who also falls into that “you won’t outwork me” category so diving for loose balls, battling on the boards as well as manning up full court, she can apply serious heat but watching her play the passing lane definitely gave me a smile
Principles First 9th/10th Grade squad
Breanna Nelson
Nelson was just a breath of fresh air as she’s somewhat long and athletic yet understood two very important things that I love to see and the first is “play the passing lane” which gave her numerous layups after the steal, see why I say it’s important yet she also did a good job of setting the defender up to take off the dribble and as she attacked the rim strongly, she finished the same way
Nike Pro Skills SATX 2024/25
Lexie Edwards Lexie Edwards 6'2" | C Marble Falls | 2024 State TXEdwards will be added to the 2024 Watchlist, she’s 6’2, has good hands and footwork, scores easily down low, and can face the basket for points as well but her agility and mobility combined with her size is intriguing because she has a college-ready body and hasn’t player her first high school game and when you add that she rebounds as well as passes the ball from the post, it’s coming
Kendall Beck Kendall Beck 6'2" | C FEAST | 2024 State TXBeck is also 6’2 and she too will be added to the 2024 Watchlist but her upside is somewhat scary because she’s long and athletic, can put the ball on the floor, and hit the midrange after creating her shot under pressure. With her length, she has no problem getting her shot off and with her timing, she has no problem blocking, deflecting, or altering shots
Lyah Neira
Neira was one of the most poised shooters in the event, at any age because she’s somewhat of a “sneak up on you” type of player that can get hers “in the flow” and with that same blink of an eye that I can spot talent with, she can have double digits just like that. The three-ball, the catch and shoot three-ball, the creating her shot off the dribble as well as seeing the floor, all I can say is uh oh
