Brooklyn Seymour commits to Western Colorado University
Another one of Colorado’s top recruits in the Class of 2021 is staying home.
On Thursday, Ralston Valley senior Brooklyn Seymour Brooklyn Seymour 5'11" | PF Ralston Valley | 2021 State CO announced via Twitter that she has committed to play basketball at Colorado Western University next year. Despite a lack of camps and tournament, and through dead periods and other challenges, Seymour has found her way to the college ranks.
“Through the whole process, it was really difficult for any schools to offer or recruit or get in contact with you,” Seymour said. “But Western has been recruiting me for two years. After this summer and playing in a couple recruiting tournaments, I just decided I wanted to stay home and go to a smaller school. I’m really excited because I think it’s the right decision for me.”

Seymour, a 5-foot-11 forward, said she was talking to several schools but once the pandemic hit, communication became more challenging. Her stock was on the rise following a great junior year with at Ralston Valley (20-6) in which she was a major piece of the Mustangs’ run to the Class 5A Great 8 in 2019-20.
As a junior, Seymour averaged 8.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.2 steals per game. She also blocked nearly one shot a night and averaged 38 percent (72 for 189) from the field. Seymour has long been considered one of the best, certainly one of the most athletic, players in Colorado’s Class of 2021. She is an excellent rebounder and defender who can match up in the post and on the perimeter, and has good offensive moves in the post.
This summer with Pro Skills Basketball, Seymour stood out against other elite clubs and displayed significant improvement as a jump shooter.
As Western Colorado, Seymour expects to remain at the power forward position once she arrives in Gunnison.
“The offense and the program are perfect for me,” Seymour said. “The program is looking great over the past few years and I love the coaches. It’s a really cool little town and I can see myself there.”
