Here are some of the stars I got to see play this weekend that are part of the 2022 class.
Abriel Thrash
All eyes were on Thrash, and the defense still seemed to struggle with stopping her. She was hitting shots from all over the court, and she even made some off balance ones due to contact from the defense that still made their way through the hoop. She can certainly do it all from handling the ball to grabbing rebounds for her team. She would run inside to post up and run outside the paint as a guard making plays on offense and defense.
Monique Cepeda
Cepeda continues to show off her basketball IQ by making the smartest plays on offense. She knows exactly when to make her cuts and where, and she set herself up nicely for a score off of her own pick and roll play. She can shoot from behind the arc or make some points against contact in the paint. On defense, she is constantly talking letting her teammates know where they need to keep their eyes, and she grabs rebounds for her team making sure her team has the offensive possession again.
Janie Thompson
Thompson showed off her shot from behind the arc. She was excellent at handling the ball using her moves to create separation from her opponent to shoot from anywhere on the court. She also found her way cutting in and out of the defense constantly moving looking for ways to make a contribution on offense. She was a tenacious defender, too, slowing down the opposing offense and jumping into passing lanes.
IoAnna Giannopoulo
Giannopolou has some great length that she knows how to use. She can post up on the block and fight for her position. She also fights for rebounds. She does an excellent job of positioning herself to help a play run all the way through on offense. She is also an asset by her vision finding her open teammates to score.
Imelda McMenamin
McMenamin was an asset on both ends of the court. She can shoot from behind the arc. She knows how to get in the face of her opponents on defense causing problems and making it difficult for them to get any kind of play going. Her demeanor was calm throughout the game, too, even when it was up to her to hit some important free throws in a close game.
Danielle Kacerosky
Kacerosky was great pushing the ball up the court. She handles the ball well under any kind of pressure, and she has great vision of the court constantly finding her open teammates to get them involved. It seemed as if she was finding open teammates before spectators could even see it. She can certainly score herself, too, showing her jump shot off from many different areas of the court.
Lily Schachte
Schachte was on fire from behind the arc making several three pointers. She positioned herself well being ready to shoot when she got the pass from her teammates. She can also create separation herself handling the ball and finding the open areas to show off her shot. She was constantly present on both ends of the court showing up right where she needed to be whether she was grabbing a rebound or looking for a pass to help out her teammate who was facing pressure.
Ruby Williams Ruby Williams 6'0" | SF Cuthbertson | 2022 State NC
Williams came out ready to play. She was handling the ball for her team most of the time, and she showed why. She was driving to the basket against contact making plays for herself. She created offensive possessions herself, too, by grabbing steals and turning those into fast breaks. She dribbled through contact creating old fashioned three point play opportunities, or she was able to score three points from behind the arc.
Natalie Bair
Bair was constantly moving on both ends of the court causing problems for opponents on defense or finding the gaps on offense. She showed off her shot from behind the arc, too, showing that she can score from anywhere.
Olivia York
York was another excellent shooter from behind the arc showing she is always ready to shoot. She did a great job finding the open areas of the court ready to catch the pass and show off her quick release. She even showed off her jump shot through contact.
