Continue ReadingSuwannee Sports Academy hosted the ASGR event this year and the gym was full of talent from courts 1-7. I had the chance to sit on a couple of 2023 and 2024 games. There are a couple players listed, but FBC Legacy 16U looked good and played well together. Several young players to take a look at there.
Here are some of the players that jumped out in the 2023 and 2024 classification.
Bryanna Preston | 5’6″ | PG | 2024 | FBC Legacy – Preston (featured image) has a very energetic game. She is both fast and quick, and can put together some shifty combinations. She has advance ball handling and a great first step when putting the ball on the floor. I was very impressed with her ability to read and react and her awareness of where her teammates are on the floor. When driving the ball she kept her eyes up and showcased a nice passing repertoire with both hands. She is more effective scoring when driving to the rim. Defensively she is an annoying defender that utilizes quick feet, active hands, and instincts to cause problems for ball handlers.
Milaysia Fulwiley Milaysia Fulwiley 5'8" | PG Keenan | 2023 State #9 Nation SC | 5’9″ | SG | 2023 | FBC United – Fulwiley does a great job of letting the game come to her. She has a quick release on her jump shot and range that frequently catches defenders off guard. She opened up a game with three catch and shoot deep three-pointers. She showed great IQ once defenders began emphasizing closeouts and used quickness to get around them for nice middle drives. Competing with arguably the top 17U team in the country has not slowed down her production. She takes exactly what the defense gives her and played an efficient game with limited usage. Defensively she does more than hold her own and consistently picks up steals and deflections.
Alyssa Green | 5’8″ | SG | 2024 | FBC Black Future – A long guard with a nice blend of skill and athleticism. Green is a competitor on both ends of the floor. She showed nice accuracy behind the arc and understands what it means to catch the ball ready to shoot. She also showed the willingness to put the ball on the floor to get to the rim. She has a nice handle and showed that she can handle primary ball handling responsibilities when needed. She made some good passes in the game and really understood how to avoid traps and find open teammates without being rattled.
Aaliyah Duranham Aaliyah Duranham 5'9" | SF Griffin | 2023 State GA | 5’10″ | F | 2023 | FBC Legacy – Duranham showed the aggression that you like to see on the interior. She forcefully chased rebounds both in and outside of her area. She has the frame to be able to bang and move other post around. She showed a good IQ by finding open spots inside the arc while creating easy passing angles for the guards to deliver the ball. She knocked down a couple of short corner jumpers with one coming off of a nice dribble pull from the right wing area. She also showed good balance and footwork after grabbing offensive rebounds to get put back scores. On the defensive end she showed that she has consistent rim protection potential because of her willingness to do the physical work.
