It hasn’t, however, been able to stop Libby Campbell Libby Campbell 5'8" | CG Grandview | 2021 State CO from raising her recruiting stock to new heights.
Campbell is a 5-foot-8 guard who has flown under the radar in part because she has been somewhat buried on an ultra-deep Grandview High School roster. But as a result of a significant increase in quarantine-inspired training and an excellent summer circuit with her Pro Skills Basketball club, Campbell’s star is on the rise.
And the offers are starting to roll in.
“The recruiting has really picked up for me lately because of the attention I’ve gotten from tournaments,” Campbell said. “My club coach has also really helped me with putting out videos and things like that to help me get exposure. After everything with COVID happened, I’ve also been working out a lot more. I’ve been doing a lot more cardio and shooting outside. I lift weights every day to be in the best shape I can be.
“I’ve just been focusing on my game and getting better. Since we didn’t have many tournaments this summer, I wanted to be the best I could in every game to get the most of every game.”

After her standout performances at major grassroots tournaments like the Nike Tournament of Champions and TFN’s Run 4 Roses, Campbell has received offers from Cornell College, Westcliff University and Briar Cliff University in September. She has also visited Colorado Christian University and has been in contact with several other schools including the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and Agnes Scott College.
As a junior in 2019-20, Campbell averaged 4.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, one assist and nearly a steal per game for the Wolves, who were hours away from playing in their fourth straight Class 5A championship game before the COVID-19 pandemic halted the season. She shot 36 percent (48 for 128) from the field and 26 percent (14 for 53) from 3-point range.
Colleges like Campbell’s athleticism, as well as the fact she can score from anywhere on the court. While offense has always been the strength of her game, Campbell said she has dedicated herself to improving on defense and building strength and quickness in order to become a better defender who can apply good ball pressure on the perimeter. Developing the physical tools and skills she needs to defend at the next level has perhaps been the biggest addition to Campbell’s resume in terms of garnering attention from college programs.
Campbell is obviously thrilled with how her breakout 2020 summer has impacted her recruitment. But like all of her peers these days, she is also keeping her fingers crossed that high school basketball returns to Colorado as scheduled in the spring. She’s also hoping that her marked improvement might earn her a more prominent role in Grandview’s next potential state title run.
“I love my high school team and I’m hoping for more playing time my senior year,” Campbell said. “We always have such good players at Grandview that it’s hard to get a lot of minutes. But since I’ve gotten so much better, I think I’ll get more time on the court because I can help the team a lot more.”
Any team can use a player like Campbell who can shoot the three-ball and finish in traffic at the offensive end of the floor. Grandview head coach Josh Ulitsky added that Campbell understands the complete game and also brings a lot to the table as a good offensive-rebounding guard who constantly works to give her team extra possessions and scoring opportunities.
“She is a competitor that can really score and rebound,” Ulitzky said. “Libby is a tireless worker and is always in the gym working on her game. Her commitment and growth this summer has been exceptional. Her dedication was evident, as she has improved in every area of her game. She is a multifaceted player that will play a big role on our team. I’m looking forward to big things from Libby this year.”
