These players’ ceilings are high and they will open eyes in their recruiting process. Rebounding is a skill that can add tremendous value to any team and set a squad in a better position to when a lot of games.
Young and still improving in the game of basketball, let’s take a look at some of the top 2023 rebounders.
Sidney Folkenberg (Mile High Academy)
Folkenberg playing alongside one of the top scorers in Class 1A ( Anela Dixon Anela Dixon 5'8" | PG Mile High Academy | 2021 State CO ), Folkenberg has been tremendous on the glass and is hard to box out. She is a relentless rebounder and tracks the ball down from a miss shot. She averaged 13.7 rebounds her freshman year with Mile High Academy. Grabbing a season high in rebounds on two separate contests with 19 twice, Folkenberg came close in several other games. She also averaged 7.9 points, 3.2 steals and 1.6 blocks per game in 2019-20.
Ramiyah Byrd Ramiyah Byrd 6'1" | SF SPIRE Institute And Academy | 2023 State CO (The Vanguard)
Byrd has been improving year after year and recently transferred to The Vanguard where she will look to add more versatility to a strong team. Byrd will be a presence in the inside and shows signs of knocking down shots from the midrange consistently. She averaged 12.2 rebounds per game and had a season high in rebounds with 26 against Manitou Springs last season. Byrd is athletic for her size and does not shy way from putting the ball in the basket, averaging 14.2 points per game in her freshman debut. With 208 rebounds on the season as a freshman in 2019-20, she will look to get The Vanguard extra possessions this spring.
Brooke Murrell Brooke Murrell 6'2" | PF Thomas Jefferson | 2023 State CO (Thomas Jefferson)
Murrell is a promising young player who stands at 6-foot-1 is versatile. She is a threat in the open court with her ability to push pace off the bounce or without the ball. Murrell is athletic and has great length making it tough on opposing teams. She averaged 11.4 rebounds per game for Thomas Jefferson and scored a season high of 19 against Denver South midway through her freshman season. She shows signs of being able to knock down shots from the midrange and has great footwork. Murrell averaged 14.3 points and 1.7 blocks per game last year. After scoring 343 points and dominating on the boards in her freshman debut, and will be out to add even more value to her team for this upcoming season.
Jensen Renquist Jensen Renquist 5'8" | SF Walsh | 2023 State CO (Walsh)
Renquist had a great freshman debut with Walsh. Standing at 5-foot-8, she is a player that will do it all for her team. She averaged 10.6 rebounds and had a season-high 15 twice in 2019-20. Renquist finished the season with a total of 202 rebounds while also averaging 17.3 points, 2.2 assist, 2.2 steals and 3.6 blocks a night. Coming into her sophomore year, Murrell seems determined to use her her effort, and energy on both ends of the floor in order to help her team improve on its 6-18 record from last season.
Bethany Long (Belleview Christian)
Long had a productive freshman debut, leading the team in rebounds with 9.3 rebounds per game. She shows that when she is inside, she is a presence on the defensive end as well. Long does the little things that help her team succeed each night, averaging 2.7 steals and 2.2 blocks per game. In her freshman year, she put up a total of six double-doubles and scored a season high in points with 16 on 8-for-13 (62 percent) shooting towards the end of the season. On a very young team, Long will continue to use her many skills to help her team this coming spring.
