Dezerae De La Garza-5’2 (Laredo South HS)
De La Garza had impressed me a week earlier at Pass Tha Ball Select 40 so I sort of knew what to expect yet she gave me even more than showing speed with the ball as well as making those pinpoint passes on the money. Her ballhandling under pressure, her decision making and her ability to run a team all stood out, and speaking of pressure, her “poise under pressure” was among the top point guards at the event, this includes all classes plus she attacked the rim and showed she could short the mid to long-range
Jada Grigsby-5’7 (Tower HS)
Grigsby used her athleticism nicely and that combined with some nice ballhandling enabled her to get out of traps yet she also showed she could not only see the floor but see the floor while running the break and by seeing the floor, that included making the pass on the money going full speed. She also showed she could attack as well as attack and dish and her creativity set teammates up for easy basket attempts. Grigsby also showed she could create her shot under pressure
Analise Guerrero-5’4 (Incarnate Word HS) @GuerreroAnalise
Guerrero was showing off some dazzle with her handles, yes both the left and the right, and I was waiting to see what else she did after getting out of tight situations and it didn’t take her long to show me what type of court vision she possessed and her directing her teammates also stood out. She has numerous symbols by her name and just rethinking the event, the one that really stands out is her defense as she was among the best defensive guards at the event
Evelyn Harrington-5’7 (Sealy HS)
Harrington handled the ball very well, I’m talking about under pressure and her ability to bring the trap to her and set teammates up for baskets was #THROWBACK because she read plays before they happened, that’s pretty impressive yet she was also vocal saw the floor very well. She showed plenty of athleticism, she had a deceptive first step that got the defender off balance and she attacked numerous times for baskets as well as assists but she also pushed the ball well
Belicia Martinez-5’4 (Incarnate Word) @Sisterballers44
Martinez made the initial WATCHLIST when I dropped it for Prep Girls Hoops and it was because she was dropping shots from everywhere the first few times I saw her yet I have her at the one because she has shown me even more over this past season that she can do more than score. She’s vocal, she handled the ball under pressure, made the right passes, and more importantly, she controlled the tempo and understands how to settle a team down but to keep everything in perspective, she can still shoot it
Desiree Penny-5’4 (Union HS Tulsa OK)
Penny for my thoughts on this young lady from Oklahoma was that she just left me speechless at times. She’s athletic, she not only sees the floor but her passes are crisp and on the money, and watching her get assists by making the pass with both hands just floored me but her ballhandling and ability to create off the dribble set everything else up on the offensive end as she attacked the basket strongly and finished with contact or dished it off at the right time for assists
