Deja Lumsden-5’10 PF (Timber Creek HS) dejalumsden22
Lumsden is long and athletic and since I always say “that’s the base” I immediately tuned in to see what else she brought to the table. She played the passing lane, always a good sign, and showed she could not only defend in the paint but outside of it as well. She also did a good job rebounding on both ends of the court and watching her not only battle on the offensive end for rebounds, but she also had several putbacks, finishing with contact
Maya Martinez-5’11 PF (Bishop HS)
Martinez has a nice frame, she’s strong and powerful but importantly, understands how to combine the two, and she did it over and over. She rebounded with authority on the defensive end and outmaneuvered many opposing players to battle for the offensive boards and while constantly moving was a big part of her game, she showed she could not only attack and finish with contact but just finish period
Jayden Rhodes-5’11 PF (L.D.Bell HS) @JRhoded2022
Rhodes uses her athleticism nicely and applying pressure was constantly shown as she understood how to read picks as well as when and when not to switch but she made it a point to rebound with players hanging on her, that’s not easy but her mindset of “you won’t outwork me” showed up several times. I also watched her do a good job defending outside the paint that athleticism kicked in numerous times and she attacked and finished strongly
Khady Samb-6’0 PF (Westside HS) @khadysamb2501
Samb has really been working on her game and has gone from just a back to the basket player that rebounded to a player that can not only score on the inside but do it by attacking or facing the basket. She’s athletic, is doing a good job defending and reading plays, even played the passing lane but her ballhandling has also shot up which is part of why she’s attacking so well, and when you factor in her agility and determination, well watch out
Emerald Saint-Laurent 6’2 P (Oak Ridge HS)
Saint-Laurent is a true post player with a college frame already, agility, mobility whichever you prefer, she has all of that but her hands and footwork were definitely an eye-catcher to go with those 74 inches. She showed good moves around the basket, finished well, after contact and did a good job rebounding on both ends of the court yet after rebounding, she also ran the floor to be back in position
Katie Winters-5’11 PF (Bishop HS) @Katiewinters_
Winters was also strong and standing a shade under “the magic number” which is 6’0, she played as if she was taller. Showing post skills on both ends, good hands and footwork, rebounding on both ends and throwing the outlet yet she could put it on the floor and attack the basket and score after contact and use the after contact because that’s important and it showed not only concentration but power
