Here’s my first my part on the standouts from the event
Madison Cockrell Madison Cockrell 5'8" | PG Bishop Lynch | 2022 State TX -5’6 PG (Bishop Lynch HS) @maddiecockrell
Cockrell has been a game-changer since I first saw her 3 years ago, or was it 4, it doesn’t matter she sold me then as a #D1Lock because she was poised, had speed, with the ball, and played with so much energy that I knew what was coming so watching her blow by defenders and scoring on the mid to long-range over was nothing new, watching her run a team and be a vocal leader was nothing new either as she understands how to make those around her better which is huge
Machila Dews-5’8 G (Whitehouse HS)
Dews does quite a lot and did it over and over. First of all, she’s long and athletic, does a good job at creating her shot to attack the basket or take the pull-up jumper which was consistent from mid to long-range. She handles the ball well under pressure and also saw the floor but her playing the passing lane combined with her speed enabled her to score baskets going the other way and she did a good job defensively
Kymani Sanders-5’5 CG (South Oak Cliff HS) @sanders_kymani
Sanders was among the many new faces that prove once again “talent is everywhere” and I knew what I was looking at instantaneously because she brought “it” off the top and never let up and by it I mean she attacked the basket relentlessly from everywhere, she showed she create her shot while being defended and that jumper was smooth but her range kept getting deeper as the day progressed. Throw in her ability to handle the ball under pressure and see the floor will have her added on the next update to the Top 100
Suni Davis Suni Davis 5'7" | SG Saginaw | 2022 State TX -5’7 G (Saginaw HS) @Sunidaviss
Davis was probably in the 7th grade when I caught her in the purple and gold yet royalty was shown at an early age with the Sparks when I wrote, well you can click on the link like she was clicking on all cylinders. She understands how to set defenders up and takes them at will powerfully making her an “and one” waiting to happen. She creates the midrange the same way and with a deceptive first step, she is hard to defend but her ballhandling and court vision continue to elevate every season as she does on her jumper
Alyssa Tarpley Alyssa Tarpley 5'11" | CG Gunter | 2022 State TX -5’10 SF (Gunter HS) @AlyssaTarp20
Tarpley just has so many offensive tools to go with her size that you can’t help but pay attention. She’s a small forward that’s also a big guard and could definitely play the 3 at the next level because college coaches love big guards that can shoot it and her pull-up jumper was one of the best and most consistent at the event. She does a good job at creating her shot while being defended and she handles the ball well under pressure so that gives her options, like attacking the rim. Throw in she battles on the inside for rebounds, on both ends, and defends
