Decisions by the NAIA, NJCAA, and NCAA have substantially affecting coach recruiting efforts, player eligibility, and more are recruiting game changers that potentially will affect the number of players suiting up for college ball. Like the 2021s, the 2022s have energetically taken to the limited opportunities to compete and attend camps and events over the summer and fall. Efforts to help players gain exposure by Prep Girls Hoops Kansas has resulted in a July ranked list composed of 171 players. Several dozen more are on a watch list. A number of those players will be added to the upcoming November refresh. Below is a list of four unranked small forwards and bigs that can be expected to appear in the refresh.
Marissa Covington, 5’10”, SF, Piper — Covington had a good Kansas PGH Top 250 Exposure event. A solidly build player who transitions well, she can play with strength and physicality on both ends. Her back-to-basket game continues to develop and she has solid 15′ range.
Naveah Green, 6’0″, PF, Winfield — Green is discovery from watching film. A long-armed shot blocker with good anticipation, she has good size and hands. Green is able to finish around the basket on both sides. She has good size and strength, which she uses well to box out and occasionally bulldoze an opponent under the basket.
Taylee Hatton, 6’0″, PF, Wichita Northwest, Wheat State Elite — Having watched Hatton several times in the past two seasons it was great to see her break out over the summer. The forward told me she worked hard on her game and her confidence over the summer and it showed at the Wichita I-35 Exposure event. She had a great event that included a highlight moment out of the left hand short corner. Off the catch she was able to beat her defender baseline to then score on a jump out. Hatton’s growing confidence in her game was evident and the result was a great event. A solidly built forward, Hatton had a highlight moment out of the left hand short corner. Off the catch she was able to beat her defender baseline to then score on the jump out. Hatton has good speed, length, size, and an growing game.
Zoe Oczko, 6’3″, C, Shawnee Heights — Oczko is another discovery from watching film of a teammate. With her size and length, her ability to run well makes her especially one to watch.
