A dynamic point guard should not only be able to run the team and create for her teammates, she needs to also be able to score on all 3 levels. They apply constant pressure on the defense and also create havoc on the defensive side. Here are just a few of some of the dynamic point guards that participated in the Expo (Part 1)
Ashlyn Zhang Ashlyn Zhang 5'7" | PG Flintridge Prep | 2022 State CA (2022, 5’7’’, PG, Flintridge Prep) – This player can flat out go and she is a dynamic playmaker with excellent decision making ability. I came away a big fan of this player even after one viewing. She was one of the quicker point guards at the event and she plays with a ton of confidence combined with a high skill level. Zhang is able to break down defenses and get into the paint with a floater or for the nice kick out or dime to a teammate.
Ashiian Hunter Ashiian Hunter 5'5" | PG Mesa | 2023 State AZ (2023 5’5’’, PG, Mesa HS) – Hunter has been on a tear lately. She has a very good understanding on how to use her size as an advantage. She has a smooth looking jumper and she has developed a nice mid-range game. She excels in transition and her decision making skills are very solid for a 2023 guard. Hunter was simply outstanding during the entire event.
Zari Watkins (2021, 5’4’’, PG, Valley Vista) – Watkins has been putting in some nice efforts over the past 3 months since returning to play for Basketball Science. Her dribble drive game is the best in the class as she keeps constant pressure on the opposing team’s interior defense. In addition to her offensive prowess, she displayed lock-down perimeter defense throughout the event. This player has an incredible motor.
Brandy Castaneda (2021, 5’7, PG, Narbonne HS) – Castaneda is scrappy and full of confidence in her game, she is a good point guard and takes things seriously on the floor and plays hard. She is a defensive aggressor and she is a pass first guard that can really score when she wants. She is improving on the three pointer, but she is excellent at getting to the rim and shooting the midrange.
