Gwendlyn McGrew Gwendlyn McGrew 6'0" | CG Pasadena Memorial | 2024 State TX | 6’0″ | W/F | 2024 | Pro Skills – McGrew has a bright future. The versatility that she brought to the floor made her a matchup nightmare. Great size and athleticism allowed her to play bully ball at times in the games. She has too much size for guards to manage and is too quick for posts with the needed size to stay in front. She showed that she could play in the post or make aggressive drives from the perimeter. She has a consistent mid-range jump shot and the shooting mechanics to consistently add range to her shot. She has a nice motor and stayed active. On the defensive side of the floor, she guarded everyone from the 2-5 and won on possessions forcing players to take tough shots or picked up blocks. She is a good rebounder and went to the glass when the shot went up no matter where she is on the floor.
Gabrielle Huetter Gabrielle Huetter 6'0" | SF Magnolia | 2021 State TX | 6’1″ | F | 2021 | Brazos Valley Elite – Huetter played well in both games that I watched. She possesses great length and when paired with the elevation on her jumper, her shots can be hard to effectively contest. She does most of her scoring from behind the arc and she hunts for her opportunities. She showed her IQ when allowing the ball to move ahead of her and then sneaking into trailing threes from the top of the key and the wings. Her mechanics when coming off screens looked nice as well. She was also able to get to the rim several times by quickly recognizing when she had a lane to make straight-line drives. Her athleticism could be a question for coaches, but with her shooting ability she is a definite floor spacer from the forward position and she held her own when defended other similar-sized forwards. Smaller DI and DII schools should be in on her.
Daviyanna Jones | 5’8″ | SF | 2022 | San Antonio Lady Hoops – Jones is a strong wing that plays with consistent energy on both ends of the floor. She has some decent skills, but her activity is what makes her very impactful for her team. She likes to get downhill on her drives using quick first steps and strength to fight through contact. She has toughness at the rim and finished through fouls more than once. She is a determined defender that looked good defending both inside and out. Her winner’s attitude showed when diving for loose balls or battling on the glass for rebounds in heavy traffic. Her ability to challenge guards at the rim was nice as well with her picking up a few blocks. Coaches outside of DI should take a look.
Kira Bass | 6’1″ | C | 2022 | MP Elite Ice (featured image) – A nice post with good interior presence. She has decent athleticism but showed skill when creating her scoring opportunities from the block. Her awareness and understanding of how to relocate or space on drives were also nice. She created passing angles for her guards to drop off passes to her on their drives for easy scores at the rim or little jumpers from the baseline. She provided some rim protection as well and made it challenging for players looking to score inside when she was in the area. It is also good to note that she converts her free-throws at a good percentage when going to the line, which she did often.
Evelyn Lorenzo | 5’2″ | PG | 2022 | MP Elite Ice – I really like Lorenzo’s floor game. She is an all-around point guard that competes at all times. She plays much bigger than she is on both sides of the ball. She is very quick and shifty and knows how to use her hesitation dribble to freeze defenders to get a step on her drives. Even when under heavy pressure she rarely turned the ball over and found teammates for open looks using good court vision. She has the ball-handling and passing ability needed for a guard her size to be effective. On defense, she is a frisky defender and picked up steals using her quickness and fast hands. She kept the pressure on those trying to guard her and got to the foul line several times behind some hard fouls. She never stopped attacking though. As she continues to develop, a floater will make her even more effective because she is a fearless competitor. She did a lot of work to create easy opportunities for her teammates.
Tayla Perkins | 5’7″ | G | 2024 | Las Vegas Bulldogs – Perkins is progressing well in her development as a point guard. She showed good instincts as a primary ball-handler and has good vision. She had several possessions in pick and roll situations and made the correct decision in each of them. She read the defense well, knowing when to attack for her own score or make a pass to teammates whose defenders had committed to help defense. When off the ball she made a couple of good backdoor cuts and created her own give and go situations showing good IQ. She also finished at the rim through contact a few times. She defended well and showed a commitment to that side of the ball.
Danae Powell | 5’7″ | G | 2024 | Las Vegas Bulldogs – Powell has a smooth all-around floor game. She showed very good speed in transition, leading to several good plays at the rim. Her body control and IQ were very impressive which oftentimes lead to defenders flying by when completing stride stops or gathering to go off two for power finishes through contact. She demonstrated good court vision and well-placed passes on assists when reading defenders. She has some skill to create her own but also the patience to not force bad shots.
Kaniya Boyd | 5’9” | SG | 2024 | Las Vegas Bulldogs – Boyd has high major potential and will be fun to track over the next few years. She is long and athletic with a great motor. She used her wirey frame well on both ends. On offense, she is an aggressive slasher and uses her length to covert around defenders, but also showed focus and toughness when initiating and finishing through fouls. She was very impressive defensively as well using her long arms to pick up deflections and steals and quickness to keep opposing guards out of the paint. Her intangible athleticism will continue to separate her as she continues to build on her skill for the game.
