With the state gearing up for the 2020-2021 season I thought it was a good time to revisit a topic I dug into in September 2019, players who board and score likely to have big years. Continuing with the process I used last year, including relying on data populating MaxPreps, I looked at players using the following criteria:
- Averaged greater than 8 rebounds per game;
- Gathered more than 175 rebounds in the season;
- Played a substantially high percentage of team’s games; and
- Had a field goal percentage of greater than 35%.
The resulting pool of 15 players was reduced to 10 by ranking players by percentage of offensive rebounds to total rebounds in consideration for offensive rebounds turning into second chance points. Listed below in order by average rebounds per game, the resulting pool of players are a mixture of known standouts and under-recognized despite a strong 2020 season. They bear watching this coming season.
Kayler Getz, 2021, 5’10", F, Quinter - Getz is one of two Bulldogs to make this season’s list. She gathered 229 rebounds over 21 games, averaging 10.9. 38.4% were offensive. She also averaged 12 points on 37% shooting. Getz was a

LaurenWhelchel5'10" | SFRock Hills | 2023StateKS, 2023, Rock Hills - Whelchel ended with 204 rebounds over 20 games, averaging 10.2. 40.2% were offensive. She also averaged 13.7 points on 40% shooting. Whelchl was a second team Northern Plains League selection in 2020.
NiJaree Canady
NiJareeCanady6'0" | SFTopeka | 2022State#58NationKS, 2022, Topeka - Over 23 games Canady had 234 rebounds, averaging 10.2. 47% were offensive. She also averaged 18.8 points on 56% shooting. Canady was a first team Kansas Basketball Coaches Association 6A and Centennial League selection in 2020.
Mallory CallihanMalloryCallihan5'9" | SFClifton-Clyde | 2021StateKS, 2021, PF/SF, Clifton-Clyde - Callihan had 236 rebounds over 24 games, averaging 9.8. A pool leading 55.9% were offensive. She also averaged 14.5 points on 64% shooting. Callihan was a first team Twin Valley League and KBCA 1A honorable mention selection in 2020.

JennaHarvey6'2" | CBaldwin | 2021StateKS, 2021, 6’2", C, Baldwin - Harvey had 217 rebounds over 23 games, averaging 9.4. 51.6% were offensive rebounds. She also averaged 8.5 ppg on 51% shooting. Harvey was a Frontier League honorable mention selection in 2020.
Maddie Kramer, 2021, 5’11", F, Erie - Kramer had 210 rebounds over 23 games, averaging 9.1. 41.9% were offensive rebounds. Kramer also averaged 11.2 points on 34% shooting, just a touch below the criteria.

Abby SinghatehAbbySinghateh5'8" | CGRawlins County | 2022StateKS, 2022, Rawlins County - Singhateh had 199 rebounds over 22 games, averaging 9. 44.7% were offensive rebounds. Singhateh also averaged 10.3 points on 49% shooting. Singhateh was a Northwest Kansas League second team selection in 2020.
Kenzie StrathmanKenzieStrathman6'0" | PFWetmore | 2022StateKS, 2022, 6’0", PF, Wetmore - Strathman is the only returning player from the 2019 Boards and Scores list to make this season’s. She had 199 rebounds over 22 games, averaging 9. 34.1% were offensive rebounds. Strathman also averaged 14 points on 42% shooting. After earning second team in 2019, Strathman earned Twin Valley League first team in 2020.
McKenna Vogl
