Below a list of players who are on the watch list for having breakout seasons and showing loads of growth in their game. Each one of these players have contributed in some way to their teams but have added a lot to their game over the summer.
Bree Kaehn Bree Kaehn 5'4" | PG Northland Luthern | 2023 WI | Northland Lutheran | 5’5 PG
Kaehn’s defensive game is fantastic- she has so much energy on the floor and advanced footwork. She is an incredibly shifty guard with a deep bag of dribble moves. She’s quick off the bounce, exploding past the first defender and into the lane. She’s slippery on the ball, and many defenders seem to not be able to contact her. She is fantastic at splitting the defenders, whether it be with the dribble or euro-step. Kaehn is definitely a pass first guard who has great vision for her teammates running the floor. She excels in the open court and can impact the scoreboard with her advanced facilitating and ability to attack the rim.
Jaidyn Schlag | Appleton West | 5’5 PG/SG
Schlag is a phenomenal role player that has really found her groove in so many ways. She is a gritty player that does all the dirty work. She is very much a player that has a much larger effect beyond the stat sheet. She’s a hustler; she puts forth maximum effort while she is on the court. Schlag is great at understanding her role- she knows she is not out there to put up crazy points or be a primary option. However, Schlag can certainly put on a shot offensively if necessary. She has range far beyond the arc and needs little room to knock it down. She is lethal off the dribble on the pertimer. I was very impressed by Schlags ability to get open within the offense, she is an elite cutter who moves well without the ball.
Brooke Lechleitner | Lake Holcombe | 6’0 F
Lechleitner is an improving post presence and does well in a lot of different areas for her team. She especially stands out defensively. On the scoring end she can score in the paint and from behind the arc due to her body control and high release on her shot. She’s able to absorb and finish through contact quite well. She has ample handling skills to where she could play a wing position if necessary. I was super impressed by her mobility and activeness on both ends the entire time she was on the floor. She uses ball screens well in order to attack the basket downhill- with how important the pick-and-roll is in contemporary basketball, this is a major plus for her skillset. She is patient off the catch, and she uses jab steps to work through her progressions.
Taylor Marquart | Fort Atkinson | 5’9 G
Marquart is a crafty guard with great understanding for the game. She is quick off the bounce, and she explodes out with her first dribble- her first step is super quick. Her athleticism can take over and give her a huge boost in the crowded lane. She can create space on the perimeter off the dribble and can knock it down or hesitate and finish inside. She navigates through traffic well too- she does not get flustered by clogged spaces. Marquart has a smooth shot and an effective release that is becoming very consistent. She is quick-witted with the ball; she frequently makes adjustments when her first option is not there. She does not make dumb decisions either, and turnovers should not be a problem for her.
Morgan Goodman | Pewaukee | 5’9 F
Goodman is an athletic forward with loads of upside for success. She has great size and her frame is expandable. She is an acrobatic finisher because of her ability to use the contact to help her finish. She doesn’t shy away and is exceptional at drawing the foul and finishing at the line. She cuts to the open space well, and she will not be the type of player that holds up the offense. She crashes the lane with aggression, which gives her a full head of steam toward the hoop. Goodman also possesses good handles for her size- she is patient with her moves, and her court vision is impressive for a forward who is primarily in the lane.
