After losing a senior class that included four Division 1 commits, the Trailblazers are looking to some younger talent to help keep the program on the winning track. Here’s a quick look at some of the incoming freshmen from the class of 2024 who the Trailblazers are hoping to get big contributions from.
1 Christy Reynoso Christy Reynoso 5'5" | PG Sierra Canyon | 2024 State CA
Reynoso is a very crafty ball-handler who can dribble well against defensive pressure. A solid floor leader who does a good job of reading the defense. She can shoot very well from the three-point line and she has a quick release on her shot. Very quick off the dribble and she utilizes spin moves to shake the defender and get to the rim. She’s a natural scorer, especially in the open court, and she has the tools to be an elite point guard at the high school level.
2 Mackenly Randolph Mackenly Randolph 5'10" | PF Sierra Canyon | 2024 State CA
For a freshman, Randolph already has some advanced skills in the paint. She’s a big body who can take up space, and she’s boxes out well to secure rebounds. On the offensive glass, she goes right back up strong with the basketball, she doesn’t bring it back down and allow the defense to get set. She also has some nice footwork in the post. She’s got a nice midrange shot too. Defensively, she can be an interior anchor. She has good feet defensively and contests well in the paint.
3 Izela Arenas
While they are all freshmen, Arenas is a little more of a work in progress. Her strong suit at this point is her jumpshot. She is a solid shooter from three-point range. She’s able to shoot off the dribble, or she does a good job of moving without the ball and getting herself free at the arc. Moving without the ball, whether it’s getting open for three, or getting out on the break, seems to be her most effective tool. Look for her to be on the receiving end of teammates passes this season.
