In it’s first time in Michigan, the girls Top 250 was an incredible success. I will name a class of 2022 Most Outstanding Player and Honorable Mentions from the event. Keep in mind, it’s impossible for me to see every moment, of every athlete, in every game played. This is strictly relegated to what I witnessed and some input from coaches.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Ella Burger Ella Burger SG Macomb Dakota | 2022 State MI (5-9, SG, Macomb Dakota)
Burger showed off an impressively well rounded game. She was very physical on defense and solid with the ball on the offense.
Olivia Bussell (5-6, CG, Monroe)
Bussell may have been the fastest straight line player at the event. She hustles at all times and has a nose for the ball.
Alaina Diaz Alaina Diaz 5'7" | CG Hudsonville | 2022 State MI (5-7, CG, Hudsonville)
Speaking of fast, here’s the definition of it. I was very impressed with her ability to play on or off the ball with effectiveness.
Anna Fernandez Anna Fernandez 5'7" | PG Plymouth Christian | 2022 State MI (5-6, PG, Plymouth Christian)
Fernandez was fun to watch on Sunday. She’ll be a rising star next high school season. She was a confident and cold blooded 3 point shooter. Fernandez had good handles as well, keeping the ball tight and protected.
Jasmine Hadley Jasmine Hadley PF Davison | 2022 State MI (6-0, PF, Davison)
Hadley is an athletic vertical player, which was especially evident on defense. Offensively, she had a really nice touch on the ball in the post.
Zoey Persails Zoey Persails 5'9" | CG Frankenmuth | 2022 State MI (5-9, SG, Frankenmuth)
Persails seemed to do a little bit of everything. She played well on D, picking up big stops in key moments. It’s easy to see why her teams seem to be winners.
Zoe Spoelman Zoe Spoelman 6'1" | PF Grand Haven | 2022 State MI (6-1, PF, Grand Haven)
Spoelman was impressive in the paint all day at the Top 250. She played with her back to the basket and showed effective post moves.
Maeve St. John Maeve St. John CG Howell | 2022 State MI (5-7, PG, Howell)
This young lady is a really special player. She’s so quick with the ball that defenders were caught leaning most of the day.
Alaila Walker Alaila Walker 5'7" | CG Kalamazoo Central | 2022 State MI (5-7, CG, Kalamazoo Central)
Walker showed a whole lot of hustle to go with her skills. She was excellent in transition and showed 3 point range.
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYERS
For the class of 2022, I decided to go with Co MOP’s. These 2 were both so outstanding that I felt like they both deserved the honor.
Madisen Wardell Madisen Wardell 6'0" | PF Detroit Edison | 2022 State MI (6-1, PF, Detroit Edison)
Wardell is an elite prospect, not just in Michigan, but in all the midwest in my opinion. She’s a long athlete that could probably play any position. She literally did it all on Sunday, from rebounding to ball handling. It was tough, even against quality competition, for opponents to find a weakness in her game.
Jordan Wright Jordan Wright 5'6" | PG Ann Arbor Huron | 2022 MI (5-7, PG, Ann Arbor Huron)
Wright was absolutely tremendous in Grand Rapids. There just aren’t many point guards in the state that can play at the level that she did. I can’t remember seeing her turn the ball over 1 time throughout the day. She scored from all 3 levels, and did it in bunches.
