As expected, the class of 2021 was well represented. With the high school season quickly approaching, this was one of the last opportunities for these seniors to make an impression, and many of them did exactly that. Let’s take a look at a few standout 2021 prospects from Sunday:
Kalila Fambro | 2021 | 5’11” Power Forward | Southlake Carroll HS – Fambro is a versatile scoring option at the four spot. She showed that she can stop and pop from mid-range while also shooting the three ball incredibly well from the catch. She gets it done in the paint too. The Southlake Carroll forward is active on the offensive glass, follows her shots, and is even skilled enough to bring down an offensive board and pull the ball back out in order to reset the offense. Additionally, she had some nice assists to cutting teammates.
Gabrielle Owens | 2021 | 5’11” Small Forward | George Ranch HS – Owens possesses solid height and great length. She had to play down low a lot during the expo allowing her to show off her rebounding ability, but she is certainly athletic enough to operate out on the wing. She makes timely cuts and handles the ball comfortably on the perimeter. At the other end, the 5-foot-11-inch senior is a versatile defender. She did an excellent job guarding multiple positions. Furthermore, Owens dives for loose balls and is just an overall physical player.
Lanie Douget | 2021 | 5’3” Point Guard | Johnson HS – Douget may be on the shorter side, but her craftiness is more than enough to combat the size she gives up on the court. She was brilliant attacking the basket on Sunday, displaying the ability to consistently score with layups and floaters from awkward angles. Her speed in the open court is solid and so is her decision making in transition. Her burst from a standstill is good as well. Douget also has a high motor. The 2021 floor general’s hustle was never in question during this event.
Alexis Gie | 2021 | 5’10” Shooting Guard | Lakeview Centennial HS – Gie has terrific size and length for a shooting guard. She is very disruptive on defense, deflecting passes and forcing turnovers regularly. She moves her feet and keeps opponents in front of her. On offense, she knows how to freeze defenders with her hesitation dribble and can accelerate to the hoop for easy buckets. In addition, the 5-foot-10-inch two-guard made a few well-placed entry passes to her bigs in the paint, something that has become a lost art in the youth game.
Shanna Petty | 2021 | 5’9” Combo Guard | Westside HS – Petty is one of those players with a special combination of size, strength, and skill. She can get to any spot on the floor with her handle and easily creates space for herself. Defensively, the Westside guard has a nose for the basketball and jumps passes like a ball-hawking free safety, getting easy breakaway layups by turning defense into offense. Beyond that, Petty is capable of hitting jumpers from mid-range and behind the arc, forcing opponents to defend her entire skillset.
