The class of 2022 was well represented. Let’s take a look at a few standout juniors from Sunday:
Alyssa Tarpley Alyssa Tarpley 5'11" | CG Gunter | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 5’10’’ Shooting Guard | Gunter HS – I got to see Tarpley a few times last year when she played for Allen, and although she typically played well, she was not the team’s offensive focal point. That said, I think she is more than capable of being the go-to option on a team after what I saw from her on Sunday. She shot the three ball extremely well, attacked the basket off the dribble with success, made smart and accurate passes, and rebounded at both ends. Now that I’ve seen her expanded offensive arsenal, I can confidently say that Tarpley is the real deal.
Peyton Mosley | 2022 | 5’8’’ Combo Guard | Prosper HS – Mosely initially impressed me during the high school season. I loved the way she continuously attacked the basket and got to the free throw line. She seems to have gotten stronger since then, because she was consistently finishing through contact at the hoop. Beyond that, Mosley’s three-point shooting is still solid, especially from the corners, and her effort on defense was never in question.
Makenna Shaffer | 2022 | 5’10’’ Shooting Guard | Northridge HS – Shaffer possesses great height and length for her position. She has a long and wiry frame that allows her to exploit size mismatches on offense as well as be disruptive on defense. The 2022 two-guard displayed good versatility at both ends of the floor. She handles the ball well and can glide into the paint with her long strides and finish over the top of defenders. I think the Northridge prospect has a lot of upside.
Xoe Rosalez | 2022 | 5’6’’ Combo Guard | Seminole HS – Rosalez is a true combo guard who can operate effectively on or away from the ball. The junior guard did a nice job of balancing her scoring and facilitating responsibilities on offense. Her handles are tight, and her court vision is excellent. She changes direction without sacrificing speed, allowing her to get past defenders with little resistance. Additionally, Rosalez was crafty with her layup attempts, showing off some nifty finishes at the basket.
Machila Dews | 2022 | 5’9’’ Shooting Guard | Whitehouse HS – Dews does all of the little things. She is an active rebounder at both ends who elevates and attacks the ball in the air. It’s always an added bonus when a guard can be productive on the boards. The 2022 shooting guard is also a terrific athlete who works hard to get open off the ball and defends multiple positions. She is a disruptive force on defense who plays the passing lanes and makes plays for her team.
Yasmine Perez | 2022 | 5’6’’ Combo Guard | Wagner HS – Perez showed that she can play the one or the two spot. She can hit catch-and-shoot threes and makes smart cuts to the hoop away from the ball. When she is operating as more of a lead guard, she has good vision and doesn’t allow the ball to stick to her. I really liked the way she was able to shift between these two roles, and her understanding of when to score and when to distribute to others. Her feel for the game is tremendous.
Kymani Sanders | 2022 | 5’5’’ Point Guard | South Oak Cliff HS – Sanders is a shifty ball handler. The junior floor general is a twitchy athlete with a quick first step. She leaves defenders in the dust when leading the break and screams down the court in transition. She can create a ton of space with her dribble, allowing her to explode through openings. Her athleticism alone makes her a fascinating prospect, and her ability to handle the ball at high level further adds to the intrigue.
