It was a sold out event with a waiting list for players wanting in. There was talent at every level for college coaches to see. We’re going to look at a few of the players there, and why they are the reason that the Top 250 is a great fit in the state and of Michigan.
Kenzie Bowers Kenzie Bowers 5'10" | PG Kent City | 2021 State MI (2021, PG, Kent City)
Bowers is committed to D1 Illinois State. So why would she be at the Top 250? What could be better than a 5 hour run with some of the best players in Michigan? The floor general may not have needed exposure, but recognized a good opportunity to hone her skills.
Jordan Wright Jordan Wright 5'6" | PG Ann Arbor Huron | 2022 MI (2022, PG, Ann Arbor Huron)
She’s always been an elite talent, but at what level? People always wondered – How does she stack up with the best? She didn’t just “stack up”, she excelled. Wright created off the dribble and could bury a jumper with little to no space. If she needed more space, she made it with her handles. Wright had the look of a D1 point guard.
Anaya Billups (2024, F, Detroit Edison)
Often times, incoming freshman will use the Top 250 to show the state what’s coming their way over the next 4 years. Billups certainly did that. She was such a smooth athlete off the wing and didn’t hesitate to make a difference in the paint as well. Billups has D1 talent written all over her game.
Maddie Petroelje Maddie Petroelje 6'1" | SF Hudsonville | 2023 State MI (2023, SG, Hudsonville)
At the Top 250, players can show that they’re even more than what their reputation says they are. Everyone knows that Petroelje is an elite sniper from behind the arc. What everyone knows now, is that there isn’t a more physical and tougher perimeter player in the state. Petroelje had that look in her eyes throughout the event.
Brook Simpson (2024, G, Belding)
The Top 250 is a great place for an introduction. This was my first opportunity to see her play, and let me tell you, she was terrific. D1 talent type of terrific. One of the top 15 players in attendance (AS A FRESHMAN) type of terrific. Simpson could have played anywhere from the 1-4, and done it well. She was a 3 level scorer that could distribute as well.
Kayiona Willis Kayiona Willis PG Southfield A&T | 2021 State MI (2021, PG, Southfield A&T)
Some athletes are just ready to shine in their senior season. Willis appeared to be this type of player. She was so aggressive with the ball, attacking the defense and making them react. Willis played downhill the entire morning and looked very comfortable directing the offense. She looks like she’s ready to go off in her final high school season.
