For each range I have chosen who I think are the best shooters, rebounders, passers, and scorers – 5-6 players for each category – and identified what makes them successful. Here are the best senior passers in the 26-50 range.
Elle Ravenscroft Elle Ravenscroft 5'7" | SF Cody-Kilgore | 2021 State NE – Cody-Kilgore
Position: SF Height: 5’7″ 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: 20/9.1/2.0
The versatile wing for the Cowgirls can credit a lot of her offensive success to quick decision-making. She always has a map of the court in her head, constantly identifying advantage opportunities. There were times on film when, uninvolved in the action, she would point out an open assist opportunity to a teammate while observing on the opposite wing. She has a great feel on the court and her teammates benefit from it greatly.
Ilycia Guerue Ilycia Guerue 5'6" | SG Morrill | 2021 State NE – Morrill
Position: SG Height: 5’6″ 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: 19/7.1/3
There are many factors that make up an excellent passer. What Illycia thrives at is using her body to open up a lane. She is great at using escape dribbles when double-teams or aggressive single coverage, and then turning on the jets to get a few steps beyond her opponent to make the pass. She isn’t gifted with great size so she utilizes her legs to get around defenders effectively to create shot opportunities for teammates.
Whitney Bauer Whitney Bauer 5'7" | PG Elm Creek | 2021 State NE – Elm Creek
Position: PG Height: 5’7″ 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: 13.8/4.2/3.5
The main ingredient in a lot of Whitney’s success is her excellent ball handling. It fuels her scoring and passing. The more control a player has over the ball, the quicker passes get thrown and the cleaner a shot will be. She is very smart once she gets in the lane. She’ll draw two and comfortably execute a wrap-around or dump-off pass. She is a good finisher in the lane which helps passing opportunities open up even more for her.
Kate Hirschfeld Kate Hirschfeld 5'8" | SF Centennial | 2021 State NE – Centennial
Position: SF Height: 5’8″ 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: 14.1/6.1/2.6
Kate showed much improvement from her sophomore to junior season when it came to running the offense. She was tasked with more ball-handling and direction. Her strength as a passer lies in transition which is often ignited by her superb defense. She is great at pushing the tempo and attacking a defense on its heels.
Paige Furstenau Paige Furstenau 5'6" | PG Neligh-Oakdale | 2021 State NE – Neligh-Oakdale
Position: PG Height: 5’6″ 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: 14.8/7.2/3
Paige showed a lot of ability as a ball handler in the pick and roll a season ago. She uses her body to sell fakes and understands how to utilize pace to open up passing windows. She’s capable of dishing out both strong- and weak-handed assists.
Meg Schluns Meg Schluns 5'6" | SG O'Neill | 2021 State NE – O’Neill
Position: SG Height: 5’6″ 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: 12.2/9/2.4
Meg is excellent at pushing tempo at the right time. Her assists stem from pushing it hard in transition, finding leaking teammates after a make or miss, or after a turnover. She has relentless energy and is always helping the offense move. Even if she’s not directly getting assists she’s never going to let the ball stick.
