For each range I have chosen who I think are the best shooters, rebounders, passers, and scorers – 5-6 players for each category – and identified what makes them successful. Here are the best senior shooters in the 26-50 range.
Addison Heidemann Addison Heidemann 5'10" | SF Diller-Odell | 2021 State NE – Diller-Odell
Position: SF Height: 5’10” 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: 14.5/2.6/1.1
Addison was Diller-Odell’s three-point specialist last year, shooting 40% from on 2.3 attempts per game. She is largely a spot-up shooter and is very reliant on a consistent rhythm. For example, it will be difficult for her to catch the pass and pump fake before she takes her shot. She succeeds best when having some space to shoot and sticking to the same timing. In that role though, she is deadly. As a junior, she did add some catch and shoot ability off the run. She improved her footwork running to the corners and getting set.
Olivia Kugler Olivia Kugler 5'7" | PG Lincoln East | 2021 State NE – Lincoln East
Position: PG Height: 5’7″ 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: 6.7/2/2
Olivia was also largely a three-point specialist for the Spartans last season. She does a great job of keeping her body from head to toe ready to shoot. Her hands are especially soft and she can transition from the catch the shoot quickly and smoothly. On 2.5 attempts per game, she shot 36% from distance and 71% from the charity stripe.
Whitney Bauer Whitney Bauer 5'7" | PG Elm Creek | 2021 State NE – Elm Creek
Position: PG Height: 5’7″ 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: 13.8/4.2/3.5
Whitney put together a fantastic, and well-rounded season as a junior. She led Elm Creek in points (346), assists (88), 3-pointers made (73), and was 3rd in total rebounds (105). Her shooting was what really elevated her impact. She hit 35% of her 3-pointers while shooting 8.4(!) per game. She has a sweet, high release point. And thanks to her above-average handle and her strong, balanced lower half she is able to shoot both off the catch and off the dribble. She runs well off-ball slipping, hugging them tight and releasing at intelligent angles. She is a very impressive player in this class.
Kylie Shottenkirk Kylie Shottenkirk 5'8" | CG Lincoln North Star | 2021 State NE – Lincoln North Star
Position: CG Height: 5’8″ 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: N/A
Kylie was excellent as a catch-and-shoot option for North Star last year. She really only has a two-footed hop into her shot so she relies on a certain set of circumstances to get her shot off but when she moves off-ball as well as she does, it creates those circumstances more frequently. She was used as an inbounder often for the team, and would catch her man ball watching the inbounds pass and she would jet out to the 3-point line for an open look.
Paige Furstenau Paige Furstenau 5'6" | PG Neligh-Oakdale | 2021 State NE – Neligh-Oakdale
Position: PG Height: 5’6″ 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: 14.8/7.2/3
Paige is another complete player on this list, and you can expect her to be recognized for her other talents in later articles. Here we will focus on her shooting, where she shot 31% from 3-point range on limited attempts. After watching her film I think her low volume is due to a personal preference. She seems to look to get penetration and not settle for an outside shot. As a point guard I certainly respect that, but taking 2-3 three-pointers per game would do a lot to open her game.
Kiara Libal Kiara Libal 5'6" | CG Ashland-Greenwood | 2021 State NE – Ashland-Greenwood
Position: CG Height: 5’6″ 2019-2020 Pts./Reb./Ast.: 16.9/3/1.6
If anyone is taking home the long-distance award from this bunch, it’s Kiara. She consistently pulled up 3-4 feet behind the line, making it look easy. She stretched defenses, and I would like to see her take advantage of her weapon to then attack defenses who play up on her. She moves very well off-ball and has good footwork coming off screens. It’s not only from three-point range, either. Ashland-Greenwood would run her off a slice cut to get her jumpers around the elbows.
