Continue ReadingThe Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Top 250 Expo was a collection of talent from all across Michigan. What if we broke it down to a Michigan Top 250 East vs. West game? I started by looking at the entire field of players, but there were too many stars and exceptional performances that way. Instead, I went by class. I won’t call it an “All-Star” game, simply because I can only go by the things that I alone witnessed that day, not the total body of work of every player. Nevertheless, I came up with East and West teams for the class of 2023. Check out that article as well! Let’s see how they stack up. Enjoy, and please let us know how you think the matchup would play out!!
EAST
STARTERS
Macey Fegan (G, Standish-Sterling)
Fegan used to be a star in the making…..now she’s a bona fide star. She has big time potential as a college basketball player.
Zar"Ria Mitchell (G, Saginaw Heritage)
I was really impressed with Mitchell as a player and as an athlete. She had good handles with both hands and impressive start-stop speed.
DeAndrea Smith (G, Flint Carman-Ainsworth)
There may not have been a player at the Top 250 that made a bigger statement than Smith. She was an athletic scorer that could play on or off the ball.
Lexi Boyke Lexi Boyke 6'1" | PF Frankenmuth | 2023 State MI (F, Frankenmuth)
Boyke has a diverse game that will transfer nicely to the next level. She has college ready strength to go with an elite mid range game.
Mayla Ham Mayla Ham 5'11" | SF Wayne Memorial | 2023 State MI m (F, Wayne Memorial)
Hamm has a really nice future in store as a basketball player. She’s a long athlete that tears down boards quickly off the rim.
RESERVES
Ava Hernandez Ava Hernandez 5'5" | SG Clarkston | 2023 State MI (G, Clarkston)
Hernandez turned heads at the Top 250. She was a confident shooter all morning with a quick and controlled release. She could be in for a really nice high school season.
Sela Lefler (G, North Farmington)
Lefler may be one of the most under rated prospects in the state. She has solid ball skills, a good stroke on her jumper, and shoots at a high percentage.
Megan McCalla (F, Chelsea)
McCalla really showed off her game at the event. She was versatile on both ends, scoring from multiple spots on the floor and guarding in the paint and on the perimeter.
Kaitlyn Sanders Kaitlyn Sanders 6'1" | SF Birmingham Groves | 2023 State MI (F, Birmingham Groves)
Sanders is a player to keep an eye on over the course of high school season and she showed why in Grand Rapids. She plays well vertically and is creative under the rim.
WEST
STARTERS
Lexi Bowers (G, Kent City)
The west side of the state will have an elite perimeter player on their hands for the next few years. She is terrific with the ball and has a basketball IQ well above her age.
Megan Gross Megan Gross 5'3" | PG Clare | 2023 State MI (G, Clare)
Gross was fun to watch at the Top 250. She was quick up the court offensively and could push the ball with the dribble or a pass. Gross always seemed to make the right pass as well.
Maddie Petroelje Maddie Petroelje 6'1" | SF Hudsonville | 2023 State MI (G, Hudsonville)
Petroelje was terrific in Grand Rapids. She has a reputation as a big time shooter, but she proved that she’s way more than that. Petroelje showed the toughness of a high major D1 guard.
Kara Bartels Kara Bartels 6'3" | PF Zeeland West | 2023 State MI (F, Zeeland West)
I can away really impressed with Bartels’ game. She had great offensive footwork in the paint and was a threat in transition as well.
Faith Carson Faith Carson 6'4" | C Buchanan | 2023 State MI (C, Buchanan)
It was easy to see why Carson created a buzz all summer. She’s simply strong, fast and skilled. Carson impressively controls the paint and is an excellent passer from the perimeter.
RESERVES
Drue Allen (G/F, Olivet)
Allen is definitely a player to keep an eye on. She has a nice combination of size, smoothness, and footwork. I’m ready to see her influence this year in high school.
Emma Bruwer (G, Lowell)
Bruwer is a talented young perimeter player that made a statement at the Top 250. She was solid with the ball and recognized good scoring opportunities.
Isabel Lindo Isabel Lindo 5'8" | PG Williamston | 2023 State MI (G, Williamston)
Lindo appears to be ready for a big high school season and college coaches may want to keep an ear turned toward Williamston High School. She has the look of a terrific 2 way player.
