We were on hand this past weekend at the Myrtle Beach Sports Center to take in the festivities. Hopefully you had a chance to take everything in as well given the event was streamed on Baller TV. It was an enjoyable experience and we are already looking forward to when we will be doing one of these again – hopefully with spectators.
Here is a brief overview of those from the upstate region that caught our attention this past weekend.
Savannah Porterfield Savannah Porterfield 5'9" | SF Byrnes | 2022 State SC – Byrnes High School – 2022 – Porterfield is a name that rang bells last season in the Palmetto State hoops realm from the Upstate all the way to the Savannah metropolitan area. She averaged nearly 12 points per game for a Rebels team that finished with a robust 21-6 record and one win shy of the 5A semifinals. Porterfield is a lockdown defender that when offense can draw her fair share of contact and find herself at the free throw line. She is also one of those that hoops coaches have plenty of appreciation for because she does a lot of the little things and her high basketball IQ allows her to be in the right place at the right time.
Ashley Farmer Ashley Farmer 5'6" | PG Clover | 2022 State SC – Clover High School – 2022 – The girls basketball program at Clover has to believe that they stumbled onto a four-leaf clover with Farmer’s presence on the team. Remember, Farmer played on the same Blue Eagles team that came within four points of defeated Goose Creek for the 5A state championship. Seeing Farmer at the Expo certainly exposes why Clover had such a successful 2019-20 as she has a great feel for the game also with a high basketball IQ. Coming within an eyelash of a state championship as Clover did can typically be a major motivating factor for players on the wrong end of a championship game result, so it may not be a matter of if Farmer has an emphatic 2020-21, simply how emphatic will it be. Only time – and the course of the season – will give us that answer.
Nykeriasia Coleman Nykeriasia Coleman 5'6" | CG Lancaster | 2022 State SC – Lancaster High School – 2022 – Coleman got hurt early in her first game at the Top 250 Expo and sat out the rest of the day.
