The Top 250 Expo was a huge success full of so many talented athletes. Each prospect brought something different to the floor and it was exciting to see how elite Wisconsin girls basketball is. Take a look at some of the breakdowns after watching each girl compete on Sunday.
Sidney Scruggs Sidney Scruggs 5'6" | PG Milwaukee Riverside | 2022 State WI | Riverside University | 5’6
Scruggs displayed tremendous point guard skills as expected. She’s become a true point guard and floor general on the floor. She is a lightning quick guard and there are not many players that can stay in front of her. She has both speed and footwork which are rare and super important at the next level. When she pairs her foot movement with her dribble moves, defenders have to guess which way she’s going to attack. Scruggs attacks strong with both hands. Scruggs has improved her shot, specifically her midrange off the dribble.
Ashley Sawicki Ashley Sawicki 6'1" | SF Waunakee | 2022 State WI | Waunakee | 6’1
Sawicki was a stock riser in the Top 250 Expo as her skillset was beyond impressive. She moves incredibly well without the ball and knows her spacing on the floor. She’s crafty within the half court and uses her teammates to find her shooting spots. She’s fierce when in the lane and is consistent finishing against contact. Sawicki was scrappy on defense when guarding smaller defenders, she has quick footwork and great balance for her size. She worked really well with the guards on her team and showed she can be versatile playing inside and out. A great communicator on the floor as well, look for Sawicki to be a vocal leader on her Waunakee squad.
Leila Ashley | Beaver Dam | 5’6
Ashley is a unique talent that should definitely make some noise on her high school squad this season. She has an impressive heisation move and quickness when attacking the lane. She’s an eye’s up type player who is always looking to make the pass first. Ashley has high energy on the floor and consistency knocking down jumpers.
Emily Mortenson Emily Mortenson 5'6" | SG Oregon | 2022 State WI | Oregon | 5’6
Mortenson displayed a lot of athleticism and versatility on the floor. She can guard multiple positions and has a high IQ for when to gamble. She can pressure full court and still be an impact in the half court. Offensively she has impressive body control and balance attacking the lane. She uses a nice floater type jumper when approached by taller defenders in the lane. Her passing skills off the drive and kick are effective as well.
Kylee Grabarski | Waunakee | 5’6
Grabarski is an explosive guard with a deep bag of skills offensively. She has great size, build and athleticism to run the point guard position. Her handles are there as well. She is smooth and she’s an effortless three level sorcerer. She does well reading where the defender is playing her and others, and then deciding where to attack or who to find open from there. She shows an impressive change of speed, and she goes from high to low well. At 5’6 she plays much longer when finishing against contact.
Kacey Ott Kacey Ott 6'0" | CG Slinger | 2022 State WI | Slinger | 6’0
Ott brought fabulous intensity and competitiveness to the expo. Her shot off the catch is phenomenal, at all three levels. She is very lethal when running her defender off flare screens, leaving her wide open to make a finish move or shoot from deep. She also possessed a consistent jab-step into a one-dribble pull up game that was exciting to watch. Ott runs to the floor well and is an offensive rebounding specialist.
