The Top 250 Expo was a huge success full of so many talented athletes. Each prospect brought something different to the floor and it was exciting to see how elite Wisconsin girls basketball is. Take a look at some of the breakdowns after watching each girl compete on Sunday, October 4th.
Eajah Danforth | Southwest | 5’2 | 2023
Danforth was successful on both ends during the expo. She showed she could really be an overall floor general through her impact defense and composed tempo on offense. Her passing was phenomenal at the expo. Once Danforth gets a step on the defender on offense, she most likely will beat her to the hoop and look to finish over the helping defender with a floater. She was also super effective at driving and finding the open shooter on the perimeter.
Natalie Manuel Natalie Manuel 5'6" | PG Grafton | 2024 WI | Grafton | 5’6 | 2024
Manuel is a dynamic, play-making guard that brings high energy and communication to the floor. A huge talker within the offense, Manuel did well working with her teammates. She seemed to understand the flow of the offense well enough to grab multiple assists per game. Not only did she find her teammates open in transition but her eye for finding her post player in the half court did not go unnoticed. She is also pretty creative around the rim, often utilizing off-footed floaters and runners to throw off defensive timing and allow space for a shot.
Gracen Gehrke | Lincoln-Way Central | 5’6 | 2024
Gehrke is an explosive secondary guard that has shown glimpses of being a huge offensive threat going into her high school career. She has ideal height for a guard and her athleticism is certainly above average for the position. She has quick reflexes on the floor which makes her such a good facilitator. She’s quick to find the cutter or teammate coming off the screen. She jabs her hands into passing lanes frequently, and she often picks off steals that many other guards could not react to.
Kaya Danforth | Green Bay Southwest | 5’7 | 2023
Danforth certainly raised her stock at the Expo and showed how versatile she can be to the game. Her rebounding was impressive and her ability to create within the offense while getting her teammates involved was as well. Danforth is great at attacking the rim when she has downhill momentum. She is not fazed by contact, and she is proficient at scoring when contested in the lane because of her body control. Danforth has a major defensive upside because of her frame, lateral quickness, and overall intensity on the floor. She’s not afraid to throw her body into the mix for the ball. She did well finding her teammates open at the right time in transition as well.
Katie Waukau | West De Pere | 5’7 | 2023
Waukau displayed a high motor and great athleticism at the expo. She has the perfect amount of speed and control when facilitating within the offense. She is mobile, coordinated and confident enough to face up and take defenders off the bounce. This made her super unpredictable with the ball which was very impressive. She is great at slashing through the defense and drawing the foul as well.
Ashlyn Yow Ashlyn Yow 5'6" | PG Waukesha West | 2022 State WI | Waukesha West | 5’6 | 2022
Yow showed elite passing and facilitating within the offense during the Top 250 Expo. Yow, known for her phenomenal ability to run the point guard position, stood out for her ability to be an overall leader on the floor. I was super impressed by the way Yow was able to get all of her teammates involved in the game. She found players open before they knew they were open. Her court vision is exceptional. A confident guard with so much upside, look for Yow to have a breakout season with Waukesha West. Her technical skills have improved so much and she finished the Top 250 Expo with little to no turnovers as well.
Jaidyn Schlag | Appleton West | 5’4 | 2022
Schlag is definitely an underrated guard with great potential to compete at the next level. She has great speed and agility on the floor. A super high motor, Schlag can see many minutes on the floor. She uses her body well against contact and is consistently drawing the foul inside. Her shooting stroke is well developed as well and she needs very little room to knock it down. She shows patience on the floor which made her really stand out for her facilitating. Schlag’s ability to thread the needle and find her teammates was impressive. I liked her eye for transition play and ability to make the long pass.
